3. I love the Weather Channel too!
I hope thats not sick. I get teased about it all the time. No one understands how I can watch it as a default channel when nothing else is on, or how I love to watch Storm Stories at night. I AM A WEATHER NERD!!!

4. It's my default station too! Weather nerds unite!
Sometimes I go to sleep with it on - I find the music soothing especially when interspersed with phrases like "upper level low". And my prize possession is a framed hurricane-tracking chart with a dry-erase surface that I picked up at a yard sale for two dollars. Glad to meet a fellow weather watcher!
PS and Storm Stories rocks!

I have a Weather Almanac I have almost worn to shreads. I can quote you average temps and rainfall and snowfall for more places than I can count. I love to watch the Weather Channel do live reports when a hurricane is slamming the coast of Florida and they have a reporter standing in the middle of it. I watch it to see snow, because here in Austin I don't get to see any. And I have a confession. I feel guilty, but I want the storms to be as powerful and destructive as possible. I don't want anyone hurt or to lose their house, but just the power of storms fascinates me. Something like watching an F-5 on a clip churn through and open field. I'm getting all worked up now. :)

edit for bad spelling

6. OMG! Me too (re the storms!)
I want to chase storms in the worst way. I live in Florida, but on the Gulf Coast, and we don't get much action over here - certainly not tornados, and very few hurricanes. I've seen a few water spouts and of course we get really cool thunderstorms, but my dream is to see a tornado. Just once before I die. I keep telling my hubby that all I want for Christmas is to outfit our mini-van with one of those portable Dopplers the pros use and then I just want to take off for Kansas in the spring...
I understand your obsession completely!

I always wanted to see one too. Eventually I did, sort of. Back in 1996, in the home I grew up in in northern Arkansas one tore our house apart at about 1AM. Me, my mother, sister and her husband were in the house. No one got hurt, only bruised a little bit. We were sleeping until a deafening roar came. By the time it registered what it was, it was too late. The roof was flying off the house, walls falling, stuff flying like you wouldn't believe. Scary as hell. My plan was always to watch on, not go through it. But in a way, it was still kinda cool. We lost SO much stuff, family pictures and things we couldn't replace.

11. Yikes! But what an experience!
I'm glad no one was hurt, though. And I am just the tiniest bit envious, too! OK so I am being eaten alive with envy...sigh...one of these days...

12. There's a way to get involved...
you can contact your lical emergency management office and sign up for a class to become a weather spotter. When severe weather is expected, spotters are contacted by emergency management and sent to pre-arranged locations and equipped with radios to communicate directly with the command center. That's where first reports of tornados, hail, high winds, etc come from ...spotters.

The course is a one-full-day course, I think.

Check into it.

13. Sounds like fun - do you have to have any special equipment?
Or do you just report what you observe?

14. No..don't think so
Having your own Kestrel 3000 would be good though. I think all you get is a radio with the police/emergency band.

7. HI, I'm ewagner and I'm an addict
to the weather channel.

I admit it. It's my default channel. I've chased storms....and worst of all...my addiction has lead to my son getting a degree in ...in...(choke) meteorology.

Okay...I have a "thing" for some of the weather channel ladies too.

there....I've confessed it all......
