Do you avoid bathing during thunderstorms?
Apparently this is something you shouldn't do. I did not know that.

3. Well really, unless your tub/shower
is next to an open window, what's the reasoning for this? I can think of a thousand other things more dangerous than bathing, fer chrissake...

5. I can't believe you're not dead yet!
You really live on the edge. Do you know if they're taking applications for people to star in the next "Jackass" movie? Maybe Johnny Knoxville and you can play around the step-down box during a flood.

Don't take a shower or a bath. Water and copper tubing are excellent conductors of electricity.

tubing. All plastic. Same rules still apply?

7. I wouldn't tempt fate...
On a side note, a friend of mine reports she used to blowdry her hair while soaking in a bathtub to save time. Never thought anything of it. How she is still here I do not know.

32. Water is also a conductor
and much like cold water in a pan full of hot grease, there is no pattern or predicting the direction the electricity might travel in water.

If the reservoir is struck by random lightening, the stuff in the pipes is the problem, regardless of the composition of the pipes themselves.

Keep yourself safe. Stay out of the tub/shower/laundry room during electrical storms.

8. And For Heaven's Sake... NEVER Urinate Into A Toilet Bowl
If lightning strikes the house it will go through the plumbing, and into the toilet bowl water and right up your urine stream and you'll EXPLODE right there.

This happened to a relative of a good friend of a friend of mine. So I know it's true.

Never was sure or not if this was an old "husbands" tale. No one in my experience has ever been harmed.

18. No. I do all the time, even though it makes my family nervous. My
grandmother always told me that

In a thunderstorm never:
Take a bath
Do the dishes
Talk on the phone

I laugh in the face of danger. Hahahahahaha!

25. Oh, you are such a rebel.
Bwa-ha-ha. Twisting my mustache.

The telephone, during thunderstorms, will send the RAYS of discomfort right into your ear, so that you must hang up immediately if it is a call you didn't want. If you choose to bathe, then the lights might go out, but you will still have hot water if your water heater is gas. And there you are in the dark bathing in warm water and then the evil RAYS will come up through the drain and you won't have to shave your legs for a while. What could be worse, I ask you.

Grandmother was right about the dishes. Never do them, no matter the weather.

Hang it, I'm in the midwest. If we stopped all activity during thunderstorms, this part of the country would have a nice long nap. It should take about two months.

20. I climb up on the roof with some raw liver and beat on it...
Edited on Sun May-02-04 05:14 PM by BiggJawn
...all the while screaming "LIFE!!!! I will give you LIFE!!!!" while the lightning crackles down all around and the air is filled with the stench of singed hair and burnt flesh....

Then I climb down and saute some onions to go with the liver, cut away the really crispy parts, and have dinner....

30. A tale of my stupidity when I was just a bit younger:
I was a lifeguard during the summers in high school and for one year during college. I worked with some really fun people, but we were all pretty stupid about safety issues. Anyway, there was a horrible thunderstorm one day that quickly blew in, so we closed the pool, and sent everyone home. There was lightning everywhere, and rain was pelting the hell out of us as we were preparing the place to close when one of my friends said he'd give me $20 to stand on the high dive with the shepherd's crook raised upward for 15 seconds. A young lady with whom I was infatuated was in on the conversation, so I decided I would "impress" her by taking the bet. I didn't realize how stupid I was until I got up there, but being a macho 18-year-old had to carry it through. Longest 15 seconds of my life.

And you may all be surprised that the young lady I referred to was markedly unimpressed with my performance.
