So I had "the leap talk" with my fellow employee

Basically we are a pretty overworked couple of people. As I said we put a 60 page paper out this week, and I'm happy with that..it feels great, but at the same time myself, and this woman had to work our weekend to do it. Guess who wasn't here? Yup, the ad sales lady who is also the publisher. Which is common place. Usually we put out a 32-36 pager on limited staff. My old paper put out an average of 28-32 with twice the staff here.
Now, Iike my job, and I don't wanna quit or anything...I just wanna tactfully mention to my boss that we need another employee.

Any thoughts?

1. Ask him if he liked the 60-page issue

Get some stats on readership for the bigger issue, any increased revenues, etc. Build a great business case for adding a head. Make it seem like his idea, too. That always helps. :)

you aren't going to get the staff immediately - she has to see consistent increased revenue. The catch 22 is that if you continue to put it out, she will see that you can... :shrug: Good luck - I think your best bet is to let her know up front that you need help to do the 60.
