113. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
Wonderful camp show of my childhood. They ruined it when they re-tooled it for the second season, getting rid of Dr. Heuer, changinf Twiki's voice, and putting them on some sort of exploring spaceship.

I wished they would have done more exploration of the ruins outside of New Chicago and the mutants who lived there, more soap-opera stuff with Buck & Wilma, more galacticc temptresses like Ardala. I thought that the whole idea of a half-rebuilt post-apocalyptic Earth was fascinating. Instead of that they did the "villain of the week" thing, interspersed with cheesy guest stars like Gary Coleman.

6. My list.
1. Mystery Science Theater 3000
-Contrary to what some fans thought, I felt the show was only getting better with age. Wittier, sharper, and definetely faster. Plus, the concept was infallible and would never get old.

2. NewsRadio
-Even after Phil Hartman's death, it remained the best sitcom on television.

3. Futurama
-Funnier than the modern-day Simpsons by far, but because Fox didn't have creative control, they let it flounder in a 7 PM EST timeslot.

4. Family Guy
-Luckily, this has been corrected, and the show is returning next year.

5. The Lone Gunmen
-I loved this wacky X-Files spin-off. Plus, you have to give it props for predicting MIHOP months before 9/11 even happened. Hell, if MIHOP is true, then they might have gotten the idea from the show itself.

68. Yes!
I'm suprised Homicide lasted as long as it did. NBC did everything in it's power to kill it off, preempting it for god knows what countless times. You didn't see shows like NYPD Blue get the runaround that HLOTS got. No way to develop a fan base at all. The programmers at NBC ruined the best cop show I've ever seen. I'd love to see them in "the box" with Frank Pembleton.

When John Seda and Michael Michele joined the show--and after Pembleton left--it was hard to care any longer. But the first 6 seasons were the best TV has to offer.

99. Braugher's protrayal of Det. Frank Pembleton
was absolutely masterful. My gripe with the show was the wholesale replacement of cast members to add pretty people like Callie Thorn, Seda and Michele. I thought Melissa Leo and Daniel Baldwin could run rings around them all. Ned Beatty and John Polito (sp) relied on acting ability to carry their parts, not GQ looks.

12. Farscape
Edited on Mon May-03-04 01:44 AM by kgfnally
SciFi did not promote this show to the extent it deserved. IMO, it's one of the very very best science fiction series ever aired. If you haven't seen it and would like to take a look, watch the pilot first. Rent it. Then watch other episodes.

SciFi apparently will air a movie or a miniseries that will tie up the loose ends left over from when they canceled it. WOW, that was a dumb decision.... the series had a LOT of story left, even if Crighton got back to Earth. I hope they deal with that in a 'real' way; the episode where he was deceived into thinking he had made his way home was.... well, educational is the best word I can come up with. There was a distasteful moral to that story, and in retrospect it was a good episode overall. No, I don't know the name of it.

Farscape did NOT deserve to be canceled, despite its cost. They underpromoted it. Their marketing department colossally failed, to their everlasting shame.

60. Damn right!
The Great Farscape Cancellation was the stupidest thing SciFi has ever done.

The miniseries will fill in some gaps, and if it's successful enough, I think SciFi will re-think their decision to cancel the show and re-up it again. The replacements they ordered didn't do as well as they'd hoped. (Tremors and Scare Tactics) and they're now stuck with only Stargate SG-1 as their main friday night show, since they moved Scare Tactics to Thursday night.

90. I really, really disagree about Buffy
It was dangerously close to jumping the shark as it was towards the end, what with Bitch!Buffy and Marti Noxious torturing poor Spike every other week. It went off at just the right time (and many would argue it should have ended at 5 seasons. I disagree because we wouldn't have gotten OMWF, Tabula Rasa, etc).

BtVS was one of the lucky shows. It got 7 seasons to shine and gave us some of the best TV ever--and it went out with a bang. It went everywhere it could possibly go and it was time for everyone to move on. I shed no tears of regret over that. Besides I thought Buffy ended because SMG let her contract run out and ME didn't want to do the show without her, I don't think UPN actually cancelled it (wasn't it one of the more higher rated shows on there?).

Angel on the other hand? Worst premature cancellation since Farscape (which still ranks as Worst. Cancellation. Ever.). This season was getting really, REALLY good and it got canned out of nowhere by network suits (granted S5 was barely made to begin with and there were money/ratings issues involved). The only silver lining to this situation is that Whedon has said we will get a good, solid ending with no loose threads, because he meant the S5 finale to be "wrapped up" no matter what happened.

I'll have to just stalk James Marsters at cons. :(

30. Fox is perhaps the most incompetent network around
How they managed to keep the Simpsons for all these years really just amazes the hell out of me.

But, for the list, several Fox shows, including:

Futurama
Andy Richter Controls the Universe
potentially Arrested Development
they are ruining Bernie Mack by switching timeslots
The Critic

and probably many others that I am overlooking right now...

And, of course, one of my all time favorites, the ABC show Sports Night.

All around great show. Period.

I know, probably no one's even heard of it.

It's (was) a BBC drama shown on BBC-America about the Royal Military Police's Special Investigations Branch stationed in Germany. It was pretty current. They were all set to start a new season and the Beeb axed it. Political implications, I've heard. Too bad; it was a good show.

FOX killed it after 11 episodes. Idiots. Last time I checked, the complete series was still in the top 50 DVD sales on Amazon.com, and it was released before Christmas of last year.

Can't wait for the feature film to come out. It starts shooting in June with the original cast.

48. That was another one Fox messed around with
until the fans couldn't even find it in the schedule.

I like how they ended it at the end of the season.

94. OMG that show rocked
I loved that show...but from what I understand it was way too expensive to produce (something like $1 million per episode). It was awesome Captain Harlock-esque space opera and I loved how it explored moral/social issues without being preachy about it (the whole thing with the In-Vitros, etc).

On a more shallow note it had a really hot cast too. I have to satisfy my B.D. Wong lust on Law & Order SVU now (why are all the cute ones gay??).

NBC says since she makes so many anti-Boo$h jokes if he's not re-selected the jokes would fall flat.

How's that for slippery logic?

Watched the latest episode (Time Bomb) and was amazed about the quality of it. But my personal highlight of this season remains "Smile Time". Kept laughing throughout the episode.

(From the ep):

Frampkin: No name calling at Smile Time.
Lorne: BAD PERSON!

76. Angel deserves another season.
They yank this and leave pap like "charmed" on?

There's been some very compelling storytelling this season, the whole thing with shaking it up and putting them in the villains' lair, killing Fred, etc. Smile Time alone was classic TV, especially when the puppet vamped! LOL!

Now we're forced with this truncated wrap-up. I'd really hoped after S7 Buffy that at least one of Joss' shows could wind down in the manner intended.

69. Homicide: Life on the Streets,
Futurama (thank God for Adult Swim), The Tick, Arrested Development (My most favorite new show. I will never watch Fox again). It seems that if a show is intellegent, it gets canned. TV certainly caters to the lowest common denominator.

84. I agree with both your choices
Homicide was way too intelligent for network TV, and Nothing Sacred was stupidly pulled after pressure from conservative Catholics, who probably never even saw the show, because there was nothing anti-Catholic about it, other than that the priests and nuns were human beings and didn't wear halos and glow in the dark. It disappeared so completely that there are still episodes in the can that were never shown, and no one has picked it up.

79. Believe it or not...
I liked that recent Randy Quaid-Mare Winningham show (I think it was called "The Brotherhood of Poland, New Hampshire). It had an excellent cast and real potential as a quirky comedy-drama.

Continuing the Randy Quaid theme, I also liked "Davis Rules" before they ruined the living daylights out of it by tossing out the Patricia Clarkson character and others. It did change networks, though, so I guess that's why the writing also went downhill.

And count me as another fan for "Homefront" and "Homicide: Life on the Street."

Part of me, though, says that a TV should die a natural death after a while. Both "Homefront" and "Homicide" had interesting final episodes in that regard.

I am so sorry to this day it wasn't picked up by HBO, and "Sports Night" is a big mega-ditto as well. It was hilarious. I can only hope that FOX or the producers will bring it out on DVD someday.

Other shows I am PO'd over (still,)

"Life Goes On"

"Once And Again"

I know, it was cheesy, but it was fun to watch. UPN just yanked it with no explanation, and left four episodes unaired.

It was at least as entertaining as Enterprise, if not more so.
