Kindergartner Caught With Marijuana On School Field Trip

It wasn’t rocks or frogs but marijuana in the pocket of a little boy picked up by police today at the Jackson Zoo.

The kindergartner at Raines Elementary School was on a field trip with his class when he showed the marijuana to several other students who then reported it to the teacher, said Jackson Police Department spokesman Robert Graham.

“It was not like he had a big bag of weed in his pocket … he had some seeds and little stems … not even enough to roll a joint,” said Graham.

No charges were filed. The child was taken by JPD back to the school and left in the custody of school officials while parents were notified. Graham said the boy, 7, “knew what he had.”

“He was, naturally, scared. He knew he was in trouble,” Graham said.
The child told police he had found the marijuana on the porch of his home.
