Is your local news doing a special report on the local Earthquake Threat?
Edited on Mon May-03-04 10:00 PM by nu_duer
(And I use the term "news" loosely, same as they do)

Mine is.

"Stay tuned after the movie to see what downtown Charleston would look like after a major quake."

May sweeps hit with a vengeance.

Where are the strippers?

2. Dumbing down even more
When American Idol is on, the local Fox station features that as "news".
I suspect the earthquake stuff is tied to 10.5. Is that the same station?

3. Naturally
same station -

I'm guessing they'll have a "coping skills" segment with Dr. Phil tomorrow.

5. We only get those sporadically, like after a HUGE earthquake. Considering
we had the Good Friday quake -8.6 for about five or six minutes- most of us already know. :-D

6. It's Channel 5 isn't it?
Bill Sharpe...Debbi Chard....fuckin' whores ha ha

(I lived in Chas. for 25 years). I know people who know secrets about Bill Sharpe and Debbi Chard...bad bad secrets :)

WCSC is the worst station in the world. All fear mongering...no news.....Every single event that happens in the world has to be spun in a "What would happen in Charleston if..." way

"What would local reaction be if Charleston were a country and there was an assination attempt on the president? Gurnal Scott with a full story at :17 after..."

"What would Charleston look like if it were on the rim of a volcano crater and were covered in 27 feet of molten lava? Stay tuned after Callback and we'll show ya! Next, Bill Walsh stands on a telephone book to obscure the fact that he's really only 3 1/2 feet tall and wears knee socks with shorts when he goes to Shoneys on Savannah Hwy" (that last part is true, btw. I saw it wit me own two eyes)

9. ACK!!!
U R F***ing cracking me up!!!!

" know people who know secrets about Bill Sharpe and Debbi Chard...bad bad secrets :)"

Now I could have gone another couple of decades without those images in my head - lol.

Blech!

Anyway, no, its on channel two here, better looking news whores, but whores just the same.

But not as bad as 5 - they don't miss a chance to sensationalize the most obscure event, as you clearly know.

:D

still have Saucy Nina Sossaman? My husband loved her.

How about Uncle Miles....IIIIIIIII'MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM outtahere.... I hated that fucker on 96 wave and I hated seeing his big bloated goon face on channel 2 at SIX O FUCKING CLOCK IN THE MORNING---that's a rough fucking face to wake up to, ya know....

15. LOL
No, Nina moved to 4 when the return of Leslie Lyles mysteriously came to an end. I actually used to like the blonde woman that was on 4 in between LL and NS, her first name was Barbara, I think, forgot her last name - Macke, but she seemed to have a sincerity about her.

Anyway, Miles is gone from 2 as far as I know, but I'm rarely up at 6am. I didn't mind him on 96 half as much as Atom Taylor, who got on my nerves to no end.

I think Miles is on one of the newer radio stations - the bridge, or the coast (gee, coast, wave, bridge - no lack of originality here, eh?).

I wish the people who put out the Charleston City Paper would run a radio and/or tv station. That would rock!

17. Do you know why Leslie Lyles left?
Well, back in 89 after Hugo, she had a nervous breakdown. SHe was one of the anchors that had to ride out the storm in Mt. Pleasant and I remember her having fucking PANIC ATTACKS on the TV (before the power went out). Then, they were on radio, and she was freaking.

Shortly after, she took an 'extended leave of absence' for about 8 years, and came back and LITERALLY right after she came back, Hurricane Floyd was heading our way (and eventually passed). I remember her on the TV and you could see the Anxiety Attack coming back on. It was freaky. Twice in my life I was seeing the same person having a mental meltdown on television. SURREAL.

Its my understanding she has either moved from the coast entirely, or has moved far far inland, away from storm surges and such.

18. I, too, love the city paper
and love reading about the krazy kapers of Kwajdo Campbell. Charleston TRIPS me out. We moved to Seattle 3 years ago, and went back to Chas for the first time last September. I was FLOORED at how little progress had occured. Except for the stalled gentrification of the East Side (that is what it's called, right?) and the parts of the new bridge, nothing else had changed. Even the same crappy stores on King Street were there (Oooh. Come into our overpriced store which only tourists come into and pay $45 for a sand-dollar with rainbow row haphazardly painted on it).

It's funny. We were at Tommy Condon's one night and they stopped selling beer at 11pm because it was Sunday.

However, Cigs only cost $2.65 a pack instead of $5.50 like up here in Seattle :)

Where do you live in Chas? I grew up in N.Chuck, lived Downtown for a few years then moved out to Seattle.

20. North Area
Edited on Mon May-03-04 11:47 PM by nu_duer
I'm in North Charleston now, as well, probably moving back to Summerville later this year. I've lived all over the "metro" area, tho. For some reason Summerville just "feels" right, within the area, anyway. I'm not in the income bracket to live in Mt.P. Yet.

Used to get downtown to party on the weekends, but haven't been much this year. Rainbow starfish - he, he, he.

Other than road construction and more traffic, I haven't seen a lot of changes either. Target came to town - ooooh. And Northwoods Mall is getting a facelift - aaaah.

Man, must have been some kind of culture shock going from here to Seattle. Haven't been, but I've had freinds tell me about it. One day I'm just gonna take off and go, maybe just to see a concert there. ;)

About that other post - I had no idea that's what happened to LL, talk about bad timing. I rode out Hugo in Summerville, and it was plenty scary there, even with my big bottle of Jack D, I can't imagine being in Mt. P., and having to broadcast on top of that. And then here comes Floyd. Yikes.

21. Its bad
The one that actually did the "downtown after an earthqake" tonight only had a computer image of one building, against a blue background, and then showed the columns in front falling down. That's it. I've seen better here at DU, many times.

7. Ah, yes, the chances of an earthquake here in MN...
Edited on Mon May-03-04 09:47 PM by Angelus
are just as good as Bush getting accepted into MENSA.

Seriously, MN is on the most stable part of the N. America craton. We do have many small faults, but nothing that could give us a large earthquake.

Thank God my news stations aren't that desperate for ratings...

10. Not As Earthquake Safe As Florida
The New Madrid fault could have a massive one, and our dishes probably wouldn't even rattle. And if they did, we'd go "Was that thunder?" Not realizing that what was left of St. Louis was now part of Illinois.

then they switched to local weather and hurricanes.
