Okay. Now I'm pissed off.
For some as yet unknown reason Walmart (boo hiss) has suddenly raised the price on all their milk by a full dollar per gallon! A gallon of whole milk is now priced at slightly under four bucks.

Is this some sort of mad cow backlash, is it a local problem (Dallas Texas), or have they simply gone berserk? I haven't had time to explore the larger world of supermarkets so I don't know if it's just them or everybody. All I know if it's widespread the price must be up toward six bucks per at the local 7-11...

Screw 'em. I'm switching to $1.18 per gal. Sunny D.

4. The Dairy Farmers...
sold off a lot of their herds to the beef industry, back when diary prices were at historical lows. Now, there is quite the shortage of dairy cows and dairy products.

Market manipulation, anyone?

15. I think
it's a normal market trend. We have a lot of dairy farmers around here, and they were dying a few years ago, a lot of them sold their farms, etc. But they have seen it before, and if I had been smart, I guess I would've bought futures in dairy.

5. Its interesting to note that milk has risen in price....
its not just in Wal-Mart, but in other major market stores.
It makes no sense and the "mad cow" would have the opposite effect:
prices should have gone DOWN.

Something wicked this way comes...its called STAGFLATION.

7. No moo cows

The dairy farmers sold/killed off their herds over the last 4 years
due to low prices / no profits... hence no dairy cattle. And no milk.
Higher prices.

Remember the moran that went to Iraq to drive a truck and got lucky
and escaped... he used to own a dairy farm, couldn't make money so
sold off all of his cattle and went to work for Bushco.

9. So now milk is
skyrocketing along with gas and health care premiums and Rx drugs. And there still isn't any significant inflation to worry about? What world do these people live in.

12. Check the price of raw diamonds
They keep the price of their valuables from getting too "pricey", yet I wonder what a gallon of drinking water will cost in a few years (months?).

21. OK, this is petty
but in the past couple of years the price of Campbells soup has almost doubled.

Checked the price of disposable razors lately?

The price of over the counter generic drugs at Wal-Mart has increased
by, oh, say 25%.

Beef is VERY high these days.

The only thing I can think of that is cheap, for real cheap, is booze. ;) Over the past 30 years it has gotten cheaper and cheaper, relatively speaking.

What does that tell you? ;)

13. And remember, milk prices are set nationally based on the
selling area's distance from Eau Claire, WI - the father away, the more expensive the milk - which is to say, the more that the dairy farmer can charge for it, which is good news for dairy farms far away from Eau Claire, but bad news for the WI dairy farmers. But good news for the WI consumer, because a gallon of milk there is still around $2.

And I'm sure that now there's some price gouging and corproate bullshit going on because the price of gas has gone up so much.

14. It's been that price in Florida Walmarts for years. At the regular
(and now high-priced) grocery stores, it has sometimes gone up to $4.20 per gallon in the past four to five years.

I guess if it's going up in your part of the country, we're gonna see even higher prices in Florida...
