Underrated singers
Edited on Wed May-05-04 01:25 PM by mvd
Like the "worst" list, this evaluates vocals only.

Many in the "worst" list IMO:

Bob Dylan
Stevie Nicks
Billy Joel
Michelle Branch (though she gets more respect than Avril)
Avril Lavigne
Alanis Morissette
Christina Aguilera (could use her voice better, though, and her material doesn't interest me)
country singers like Reba McEntire and Martina McBride
Shania Twain
Lucinda Williams
Kasey Chambers
Bee Gees singers (a little too feminine for me sometimes, but they do well on many songs)

more later maybe..

2. I'll give you Dylan, Lucinda, and Stevie.
I haven't much use for the rest, though.

Then again, YOU don't like Yoko, you... you... dum-dum-head! :D

12. To what? Warbling never-beens?
:P

(Dude, come on, I gave you Stevie -- I'm far too much of a music snob to budge any further)

15. Then it's a standoff
I'm not changing, either. We obviously have different perspectives on music.

13. Warren Zevon
He gets a lot of credit as a songwriter, but he was a wonderful singer as well.

16. Initially, Jimi's voice bugged me. But now?...
...Now I can't imagine anyone else singing Jimi's songs. Others have done so, with some good results ("Little Wing" etc.) . BUT Jimi's singing and playing now seem to me to be such genius of song construction. It was all very intuitively thought out. His vocals, which I've learned to love for their raw emotion and soul, and his playing , which is unparalleled, mesh together in a way that makes him utterly unique.

Though I guess I feel kinda the same way about Bert Jansch's output in the '60s. Jansch? Anyone, anyone?
