Wind-up toys! Wind-up toys!
Hey, I've seen the "How old are you?" Lounge polls. I know around half of DU is within 5 years of my age one way or another. (How sad is that? But that's for another post.) So I know most of you remember the great Tomy wind-up toys of the early '80s. If not, go visit anyway; they're neat! (high as shit, though):

I'm such an adult, aren't I?

1. I still have an ET wind-up toy
I got it in a Happy Meal back when the movie came out. :)

2. Suspect you could make a small fortune off that on eBay if it still works
I have one of my Tomys left, but it's slowed down a lot. Want to get new zippy ones to amuse the girlfriend's cat!

4. Or not...

If link doesn't work, go to eBay, follow Toys & Hobbies link, follow Wind-up toys, Walking toys link, then search "ET." So far bids are up to a sky-high $1.50, but the person doesn't say how old the toy is.

By the way, a tardy Welcome to DU!

6. Back in the olden days...
Before we had to keep the cockpit doors locked...
Back when we even propped 'em open so the passengers could come up and watch and marvel at us Sky Gods...
I started something. I brought a little wind up car on a trip. Maybe I was just bored. Once we were up in cruise flight, I wound it up and set it on the floor at the cockpit threshold and let it go back down the aisle, all the way through first class and under the curtain into coach. The cabin attendants and passengers were all laughing.

We got into this wind-up toy thing for a few months. All the guys (the cockpit was ALL guys then) started bringing them. We had races and contests. The passengers were betting on them. God, that was fun.
