About bloody time! (Star Wars DVD rant)
In 1997, they had a special edition of "The Empire Strikes Back".

For a number of reasons, there's no point to have made any of the special releases... (Oh, I could spent a megabyte worth of text going into this...)

But one thing they did NOT do was to replace the drunk guy who played the Emperor in "Empire Strikes Back" with the dude who played the Emperor in episode 6, keeping in mind he came back for eps 1 and 2 (and likely 3 as well). I remembered in 1999 that "Hey dude, that's THE Emperor? Why wasn't he in the special edition of Empire?!" I still look in shock when I watch my laserdisc release. In 1997, nobody would have noticed. 1999 and after, whoo-boy. People probably would have noticed. Hopefully. :-)

Are they going to correct it in the upcoming Sept 21 "Special Special Edition" releases? I've heard Lucas, once again, can't let things stand on their own so he's molesting them once again... :eyes:

1. was it a different actor in Empire?
Of course, it was only the "holo image" thing, and it was very brief

(edit added pic reference:)

Actually, of all the changes they could make, this is one I actually appreciate. Just the voiceover replacement alone would be sufficient, but having McDiarrmid in make-up goes the extra step.

I still hate the added Jabba scenes in "A New Hope". Jabba's lines are so unlike that of Jabba we'd seen in episode 6. He was waaay too NICE.

And if they'd restore the original Greedo death scene, I'd be pretty much happier too... (Han shoots Greedo in cold blood in the original. In the original special ed, it's revamped to make it look as if Han was shooting in self defense. Blasted idiots, this is not Star TREK. This is Star WARS. We don't want the political correctness. Not this time.)

And they should re-release ET as well. Dumb movie, but in Ashcroft's America, all the FBI dudes wielding guns is far more appropriate than photoshopping walkie-talkies over them... :eyes:
