So, I think my best friend is a quiet homophobe
He'd never say anything about it to me, cause he knows I'd think less of him. But this weekend I have a bunch of friends I went to J-school with coming up to the cabin for the weekend, two are gay, they're going to be there Saturday, and my buddy is gonna come up Friday but wants to leave Saturday. It's strange, why would he leave Saturday?

I figure he's not comfortable around gay people...he's not the kind to hate, he's the kind to be uncomfortable...it's kinda funny really.

1. What, you have a problem with homophobes or something?
You're not homophobophobic, are you?

2. Sadly, not an uncommon affliction
The only cure is gradual desensitization. Took me years to get used to the idea and I AM a homo. :)

3. HeyHey
First of all, I am so sorry that I couldn't sign up for the DU gathering in Vancouver. We're booked up through most of May, but I hope to meet you sometime soon.

I spent most of my teens and 20's in the church, as a result, I didn't get to know anyone who was gay (and out of the closet,) till I was in the workforce. My friend Dyer patiently answered all of (I'm sure,) my stupid questions, and I miss him to this day. (We lost him to AIDS in 1993.)

I hope that the friend who wants to leave early will spend a little time with your other two friends and realize that they're just people, too, and would be great friends as well.

Julie
