21. My wonderful and beautiful wife is from Pennsylvania
A place called Muncy, about 10 miles from Williamsport.

It's a beautiful area, but people seem pretty conservative. Very nice people though. I always enjoy my visits to my in-laws and our firends down there.

Question - I may move to PA at some point. What is the nicest area (and most liberal) to live in PA?

26. Philly and Pittsburgh are the liberal places
Although you'll find pockets here and there. Northeast and parts of Western PA have strong union influences, but are very rust-belt with few long term prospects.

Lancaster is a nice small city, and reasonably moderate. State College is a nice town, but a little too dominated by Penn State for me.

I grew up in Central PA (Harrisburg area), and don't have much desire to move back there, but there's a decent job market, low cost of living and some really pretty places to live. All the towns have a unique identity and you can find pockets of liberals there.

28. both those cities are surrounded by conservative suburbs
And Pitt is really not that liberal. It's only about 60% Dem.

Reading has a bunch of Greens and Johnstown is a Democratic stronghold. No Republican would dare run against John Murtha. And State College too.

There are tons of liberal places in PA and they are not necessarily urban areas.

29. My wife has lots of family in the Harrisburg area
Edited on Fri May-07-04 09:04 AM by Canadian_moderate
Seems like a nice place, but I don't know it all that well. It's hard to know what people are like until you live in a certain area.

I've heard good things about Lancaster from her cousin who lives there. He seems like a good guy.

BTW, my wife graduated from Penn State. Her whole family seems to be Penn State alumni. At least my kids would have a good chance of getting in there, although, university is much more affordable in Canada.
