Who Was President When You Graduated From High School?

I graduated in 1971, during Nixon's first term.

Reagan didn't take office until 1981.

Unfortunately, by the time I graduated (1984), Reagan was firmly entrenched in the American psyche. God, I hate the '80s! :grr:

I graduated in 1998. During the good times before Dubya ruined everything.

A few months after a son of a Bush Crime Family associate tried to gun him down and blame it on an obsession with Jody Foster.

I graduated high school in 1996, the beginning of Clinton's second term. All I kept hearing about the next 5 years was the prosperity and the economic "good times." I do recall decent-paying jobs ($10+/hour) being fairly easy to come by, even for an unskilled college student such as myself. In 2000, my senior year in college, I voted for Gore then watched as * stole the Presidency from him, and by the second half of my senior year I was already starting to hear about the economic downturn. Things were already going well south by the time I graduated in June 2001. Then 911 happened and the rest is history.

Back then I felt like I got gipped, since all I'd been hearing about was the boom, and I wasn't going to get any of it. Now I look back and think what poor timing I had (could've graduated college sooner). That and I miss Bubba, despite the fact that I wasn't too fond of him when he was in office.

I remember how people were so pro capitalism and everyone was going to get rich.

Unfortunately, I didn't turn 18 until 3 weeks after election day, so I couldn't vote in that election.

I used to think he was a horrible President (still don't like him), but little did I know what was in store one and a half terms later.

And yes, I'll always remember where I was when I heard the news.

Every year just before November 22nd, I start a thread asking what people remember about that day. It's amazing how vivid the memories are after 40 years......

Equally amazing that Poppy Bush was in Dallas that day and can't remember anything..... :tinfoilhat:

June 1992, so also Bush Sr. Although a glorious change would happen 5 months from that time- let's hope the same happens for June 2004 graduates! :D

Next election... wasn't that Nixon. I didn't vote for Nixon. I believe Anderson (3rd party) ran.

JFK was shot in November of '63. If you were in 7th grade then, you should have been in 9th grade at the end of the '65-'66 school year.

I graduated in 1971...JFK died when I was in fifth grade.

Funny how I once thought he'd be the worst president in my lifetime.

there'd be someone sitting in the Oval Office who could out-Nixon Nixon.

And I miss him. He was a good guy.

I rushed my Eagle Court of Honor up to the beginning of January 1981 specifically so my letter of commendation would be from Jimmy Carter and not some corrupt glad handing weasel actor who dyed his hair with black shoe polish.
And I've only gotten more truculent since then...

I helped run a blues and jazz festival for many years; one year, at the beer tent, one of the questions we'd ask when we were suspicious that IDs might be doctored was 'who was president when you were born?' That tripped up lots of people.

I was born in February, 1960. Eisenhower was president.

Started college a year early, in 1980, when Carter was still President. It's all been downhill since then!

I actually voted for him in 1984. Worst thing I have ever done except for shooting that cat in the eye.
