Another cat thread...What's the most endearing thing your cat does?
My eldest cat sleeps at the top of my pillow above my head, unless she gets cold and then she crawls under the blanket in the crook of my arm.

1. My eldest cat does that, too
-The sleep above my head business. My youngest cat likes to crawl in to the crook of my arm and nuzzle happily. Or sometimes, when it's cold out, he'll burrow under the covers and curl up against my belly.

2. i wonder why my cats don't sleep on the pillows...
But the new one, about 14 mos, rolls over on his back like a dog for a belly rub...

The older one likes to play "vulture" through the stair railing, thinking you won't catch him swatting at you as walk by...

Love 'em both...

3. Wakes me up very gently
every moring at the same time. But he does have a bit of trouble with the week we go on or off daylight savings time. And he loves to snuggle the 90 pound hound. Puts his chin on the hollow of the dog's cheek and they sleep together. SOOOO cute. I gotta get my web page set up so I can post pics of them.

19. When my partner gets out of bed in the morning
our little one (realize little is relative since our cats are 19 and 14 lbs) sits on the floor by the bed and meows. It's like he's asking for permission to come up on the bed, because I just pat on the bed and say "come on, Tucker" and he hops right up for some early morning snuggling. He's a noisy one. He also rolls over on the floor showing us his belly and looking for a belly rub.

Calvin, the big guy, thinks he is a lap cat. If you are sitting on the couch or at the computer, he hops up into your lap (all 19 lbs (although he has lost two pounds this year, for which we are very proud of him)) and proceeds to make "Kitty biscuits" on my belly, all the while purring up a storm.

4. One of my cats is mean as a snake, on is always on the prowl,
and the other one is paraplegic, so she doesn't prance like she used to. She has always talked to me though. She does this prrrrrrrrrrup sound when she's happy, as do most of her brothers and sisters who live out in the country.

5. eats the mice in my kitchen
aside from that, constantly tries to climb into office chair and thus my lap while I'm working. When I do let her up I feel like Ernst Blofeld or Dr. Evil.

The nice thing is good. For every one she gets, it scares of several more.

11. My Arielle would claim the entire bed before I went to sleep
Somehow she'd sense when I was ready to go to bed and would jump on the bed before me and somehow manage to take up most of the fullsize mattress. Then when I'd move her out of the way she'd get real grumpy with me.

13. My cat fetches... is that a sign of stupidity or intelligence?
Any ideas?

The other cat uses his paw to scoop a piece of food out of the bowl and then eat it off the ground. Not sure what that means either.

15. Intelligence
He's taught you to throw the ball on command.

About the other cat using his paw to take his food out of his bowl and eat, check the bowl. Sometimes, if the bowl is so small that their whiskers touch the sides, cats will take the food out before eating.

14. Catnip Addict
My little Dolce loves catnip, which I grow in the garden just for the kitties. He gets in the middle of the catnip patch and lies flat on his belly and rubs his chin all over the catnip. He can keep this up for quite a while. It's the cutest thing I've ever seen. He also has two rubber snakes that he plays with constantly -- so much so that he brings them to his food dish with him. He likes to dunk his toys in water before he plays with them (hence the rubber snakes and no fuzzy mice).

17. Semi-long story
We went to a no-kill shelter to find a new kitty. After looking around, there were 3 or 4 we had our eyes on. One of them was a kitten who bounced around trying to wrestle with every cat in the room. The cat he chose would smack him, and he bounced to another cat.

he'd been there 4 hours and had pissed off every cat in the room to the point they started smacking him on sight.

But he was a cutie. A Russian Blue with a tiny patch of white on his belly.

So I picked him up to get a close look. And he leaned in and licked my nose. Game over, man. Game over. This kitten had a new home with that one action.

He's now 6 years old, he's up to 16 pounds, and a loveable guy. And to this day, he still licks my nose every time I pick him up.

Oh, and he still bounces up to our other 2 cats and tries to wrestle with them. He outweighs both of them and they still whomp his butt with ease.

20. Whenever my husband or I enter the room.
Our cat will roll over onto her back and squirm around. She'll make really cute chirping noises, too. We also have a morning ritual - she joins me in the bathroom while I'm getting ready for the day. I groom her for a few minutes and she spends the rest of the time sitting attentively under the heat lamp. It's our girls time.

21. When I get home from slaving
away at the camp that is my job (the insurance company) my cat, Tie Dye, will come out of her hiding spot and greet me at the door. She immediately begin telling me what she did during the day (sleep, eat, sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep, clawed on the couch, more sleep etc).

She likes to have some part of her on me at all times.

22. She brings me birds
Usually she eats the head herself, so most days there's a headless body on the porch, with the beak nearby. I just wish she'd get the blackbirds and leave the cardinals and robins alone.

24. Catches cards
Edited on Tue Aug-19-03 01:01 PM by Caution
I throw playing cards for my cat Leeloo who leaps into the air and catches them between her paws. Very cute :)

My other cat leaps onto her scratcher in the morning for some loving before I leave for work, when I try to pull my hand away she reaches out with a paw and hooks my hand and pulls it back. She always gets an extra couple of minutes of attention in the morning that way.

But easily the best is when Kasha (my grey tabby) brings me her bear. When we adopted her from the shelter she had a beanie baby bear in the cage with her. Apparently the little girl who dropped Kasha off at the shelter told the administrator that whoever adopted the kitten had to take the bear as well. Every night Kasha carries the bear like a kitten (scruff of the neck) down the stairs and drops it by the couch and meows at me, looking to get attention. It's the cutest thing ever. When we go to bed she brings it back upstairs into the bedroom. Leeloo will not even go near Kasha's bear!

I've got video of Leeloo catching the cards but nothing yet of Kasha carrying the bear. Working on it though :)

25. The man of the house
My cat Seamus considers himself the man of the house. One of our friends brought a pit bull to the door. His presence in our household was unacceptable to Seamus. He ran up to the door and hissed right in the dog's face! He's usually a laid back cat, but this was a matter of principle...

26. My baby was totally people-raised.
The manager of our local Target opened up the Garden Center one morning and found an abandoned litter of 5 fresh-borns and called the closest vet.

Well, that's where my daughter works, and her being the reincarnation of St. Francis, that litter came to my house that night with her after work and she proceeded to bottle-raise them to adulthood.

We kept one, and even though he's 3, he's still "the baby." He's been hugged and kissed on copiously his entire life, so if he does't get that he gets moody.

So that's the cutest thing he does - he lets me kiss him. I have to pick him up and sing to him and smother him with kisses. I get to it again in about 25 minutes, just as soon as I get home.

27. The way he lies down behind me while I walk backwards
Sweeping the porch, slowly walking backwards, I can always count on him to lay his carcass down in my path so as to cushion my fall when I trip over him. :)

Another cat, the little one, does a great Lion King imitation on the roof of my easy chair (it's sort of a sunshade...lot of light in here).

Third cat likes to take a running leap onto the porch rail, which overlooks a 20+ foot drop. So endearing!

I'm really fond of them, just try to repress it so they won't take advantage.

He meows "Pick me up" at me, puts one paw on either side of my neck, and rubs against my cheek while he kneads the base of my neck. I can't put him down then without snagging my clothes. He's like velcro.

29. wriggles in between John and I at night
purring like a mad thing, and patting us gently with his giant paws while reverting to utter (if 20-pound) kittenhood. He's adorable. He'll lie on his side, kneading John's belly and tilting his head back to look adoringly at me.

31. My Ryno girl purrs very loudly
and when I'm snuggling with her at night, sometimes she'll put her paw ever so gently on my cheek.

At other times, she'll grab my hand with her two front paws and pull it toward her face, then rest her pretty little head on my hand.

She'll also squeeze my finger with her front paws. I love my little angel girl. She's 13 years old and the love of my life!

Here is the pretty little girl:

32. hmm...
my new guy, Rudy, about 4 months old now, crawls up on my shoulder and sucks my earlobe while kneading my face and neck.

My old girl, Polly, has no short-term memory whatsoever. And she's always hungry.

So, I put food her in bowl. She eats a few bites. Gets distracted. Comes to me meowing (well, more like "ACK") to be fed. So I pick her up, carry her right to her bowl and show her the food. She takes a few bites. Gets distracted.... and on and on. It never once in the 10 years I've had her to actually LOOK in the foodbowl before complaining to me.

My middle guy, Punk.... well... he likes water. LOVES to walk around the lip of the tub while I shower, or even get down in the shower with me. Doesn't faze him a bit if he gets wet.

My first cat, now gone a couple years, was the meanest old bastard you could imagine. Except when was nice. But you couldn't tell when the mood change was coming. When I had him put down, I told the vet he'd have to sedate the cat before injecting him due to his temper. He was given "enough sedative to knock out a 30 pound dog in 20 minutes". An hour later, he was still standing up, but a bit wobbly. More sedative... half an hour later, took him out of the carrier, he seemed out of it. The needle goes in... Scooter jumps up, hisses and reaches out and scratches the hell out of my brother, who was with me. Left three claws in my brother's hand. I still have them in a little cup. When he died, I said "he's satan's problem now." But I loved him to death.
