Food you can't find locally.
For me it's Springfield cashew chicken in Maryland. I ordered a dish called cashew chicken last night and it was a stir fried mess of chopped vegetables, chicken (I think) and cashews. Hurl matter at best. Cashew chicken is to Maryland what crab cakes are to Missouri.
I'm headed to Food Lion and get this craving under control.

The best corn in the world comes from Ohio,to be more specific, the Cuyahoga Valley . In fact , I would limit it to a single farm in the vally.

North Carolina sweet corn sucks (my apologies in advance to any North Carolina farmers I may have offended).

30. For me its not a food
but a spice. We found this great spice mix that is manufactured in Florida. Its called Everglades Seasoning Mix. ( They have a couple of different varieties like seafood seasoning and a southwestern one called Cactus dust ) We love the main blend though, plain old Everglades Seasoning.

We have not found anything that it does not go well with. We use it on fish, chicken, poultry, steaks, hamburgers, vegetables, I mean just about everything.

Fortunately we found that you can order it from the company that produces it in Florida. Unfortunately their website is kinda clunky and the only way to place an order it to download a form from the site and fill it out and fax it to them, no on-line ordering.

48. A dish that originated in Springfield, Missouri
at David Leong's Tea House in the 1960's. Bite size pieces of chicken breast which are battered and fried in peanut oil, The sauce is made from oyster sauce, soy sauce, chicken broth, cornstarch and a little sugar. The chicken pieces are placed over a bed of rice and the sauce is then poured over the chicken/rice. Top the dish with cashew pieces and chopped green onion.
