Guitar players: did you catch the tune at the end of "Friends?"
1,000 cool points to the first stringhead who posts the name of the tune, name of the band and name of the guitarist.

Bonus Essay Question: What could it possibly have meant in the context?

3. No, I mean the instrumental at the very end of the epsiode.
Lovely acoustic piece it was/is, too!

And thank you, emulatorloo.

2. Jefferson Airplane.
Song is "Embryonic Journey" from Surrealistic Pillow. Guitarist was Jorma Kaukonen.

Maybe, in context, it just means a beautiful thing has come to an end.

5. Thank you, bigmonkey!
And welcome to DU! Anybody who knows about Jorma Kaukonen is either all right or completely gone!

Now, would you like to keep the Cool Points or trade them for what's behind Door Number 3?

I'd say that it points to lives re-beginning. The new phase of their lives are in the embryonic stage.

When I DJ'd at my college radio station i used to mix Embryonic journey into the Beatle's "Tomorrow Never Knows":

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream,
It is not dying, it is not dying

Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void,
It is shining, it is shining.

Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being

Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing

And ignorance and hate mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing

But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not leaving, it is not leaving

So play the game "Existence" to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning

4. I torture only the guitar now not audiences
but I can still appreciate good riffs- I'm totally out of the music scene but those licks caught me ear - I wish I had heard the whole thing. Thanks for bringing it up, cause I want to hear it again.

8. 'Surrealistic Pillow' is worth having, then
The Airplane was so far ahead of its time.

11. Thanks for the welcome!
I post only occasionally. I have a pretty wide acquantance with music up until about 1980, more spotty after that. I've always thought this guitar piece was one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, and Surrealistic Pillow is an absolutely spectacular recording in general.

Strange to be such a long-term participant here, and still be thought of as a newbie.
