FM Radio Stations: Is Is Just A Coincidence That The NPR Stations Are Low
Edited on Fri May-07-04 04:20 PM by arwalden
frequency numbers? As are many of the jazz and classical and university FM stations? --- I'm sure that there are exceptions, but it seems to be more true than not. Or is it my imagination and just a phenomenon that I've observed in the Mid-Atlantic area?

1. I think that part of the band was specifically allocated
for these type of stations.

2. Right:
Educational broadcasters won a significant and lasting victory in 1941 when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reserved a portion of the new FM band exclusively for noncommercial use.

3. < 92 MHz: noncommercial
You can imagine how much Clear Channel and other commercial broadcasters covet those frequencies.

I don't know how the've been so well protected from the FCC giving them away to corporatations all these years, but I sure hope that "lasting victory" continues.

6. Maybe they're "Going Grundig"?
I have 2 old Grundigs, the big "German Table Radios" from the 50's?
The low end of the FM dial is to the right on both of them...
