1. I prefer The Oxymoronic President

I prefer The Oxymoronic President...

... cause it best sums up Rove's strategery of misnaming all initiatives with labels antithetic to the content:

  • Clear Skies -- initiative that increases pollution
  • Healthy Forests -- plan to eliminate forests
  • "We believe in transparency" -- reference Supreme Court case Cheney v. U.S.D.C. District of Columbia
  • limited sovereignty
    etc.

... but love this label ALSO, because I'm very confident that The Chimp and his worshippers will take offense, thinking I'm calling him a moron (though the words are wholly unrelated).

edit: added text left out originally due to preemptive post

2. Those aren't oxymorons, they're lies
Oxymoron would be more like "happy tragedy"

5. Poetic license; no need to be so literal. n/t
(yes, I know, but don't see the need to be so literal, especially since using the label would undoubtedly tick off wingnuts.)

8. Elaboration and rationalization
I *do* understand your point. However, I was not implying that "Clear Skies" or the other statement were, themselves, oxymorons; rather, the oxymoronic aspect derives from the contradictory positions of the labels and the content/facts.

Unfortunately, I accidentally hit "Post Message" before I'd barely begun the post (meaning to hit "Preview").

p.s. "Oxymoron" applies to more than the specific case of contradictory word pairings, and can be broadly applied to "concepts made up of contradictory or incongruous elements." (Love m-w.com.)

    Main Entry: ox·y·mo·ron
    Pronunciation: "äk-sE-'mor-"än
    Function: noun
    Inflected Form(s): plural ox·y·mo·ra /-'mor-&/
Etymology: Late Greek oxymOron, from neuter of oxymOros pointedly foolish, from Greek oxys sharp, keen + mOros foolish
: a combination of contradictory or incongruous words (as cruel kindness); broadly : something (as a concept) that is made up of contradictory or incongruous elements

3. On my similar thread in Bush, Conservatives & Conservatism,
somebody just suggested neo-con artists, which made me grin. Works in the singular, too.

10. Will Pitt was funny during his speech
at Kent State on May 4, he said "by the way, George, it's pronounced (very slowly here) NU-CLE-AR!" He had everyone laughing with that one.

11. Knucklehead, but a snappy dresser...
...and even if the world is in turmoil because the people running the prison camps in your occupation think that a prisoner with a broomstick up his butt is a "photo op," that shouldn't prevent you from LOOKIN' GOOD!...

...should it?

Becuase he's just a stooge. Of course that's insulting the stooges so that might not work.
