Just got back from GD...
I need a hug... The whole shitty thing is so so shitty, it stinks and doesn't seem to be getting better. I can't see anyway out of any of this, even if we get the good guys in the White House, our whole nation needs a new... something positive, our nation has done so much shit. Who really can like us after this, and that and that other invasion. I don't even like us, look there go my rights, the attorney general seems to have tossed them out the window! And the man who is supposed to be the the leader of this country says things that make my poor brain hurt trying to make sense of them.
Ugh... I wanna move to Canada. Really who doesn't like Canadians?
You can't see it but the face I'm making looks like this...

1. Sorry Lizz, sweetie.
I keep telling myself we have to hang in there, but part of me is saying, "What's left to hang in there for?"

I try not to be defeatist, but it's really difficult sometimes. Just try to think of any good thing you can grasp and keep fighting. For me, it's my garden and my husband and my dog.

I worry every day, but I don't let it consume me. I'd go crazy.

Just keep coming here when you need some support.

2. Thanks
I turned on some good music and say Arwalden's thread about thunderstorms, its helping.
The reason its hurts so bad is that I'm studding and I don't see how chemistry helps the world now.
My mother called it "good liberal guilt"; why do I have so much and so much comfort while others have so little and suffer so much? Then to top it off we act like a bunch of asses. We are so bug and strong and have so much power and instead of using it for good we just fuck things up worse. I feel like I'm watching a once good superhero tear up the city they once defended.
Oh my there I go slipping back into that funk...

On a lighter note, I met you at the restaurant after the march didn't I? I was the one that got up and went to the bathroom after introducing myself. Heh.

chemistry, like all other sciences...
were initally pursued with the idea of improving people's lives. people's lives are extended due to chemistry, in the form of drugs (forget about the corporate greed part of drugs). dont feel guilty about your area of study, the world needs chemists as much as it needs anything else. infact id say it needs more people in the sciences than it has.

good and bad things come from anything. try to focus on the good, or at least the big picture, and not just the bad part.

5. That's right!
I was trying to remember who all else I met! I got introduced so quickly to everyone, so it was difficult to remember everyone since I didn't get to talk much to all the folks at the table.

Glad we got to meet at least!
Keep yer chin up! That's an order! :-)

3. awww...

i know its kinda a somber defeating mood around here... but i watched rummy testify today... and the protesters cheered me up... a group of people in the hearing stood up, unfolded signs and started yelling "fire Rumsfeld, Fire Rumsfeld" if you missed it. that right there gave me a little hope.

just take this thought with you... rumsfeld is going down either way, if he resigns hes gone and such, if he doesnt, hes going to drag bush, cheney, condi, rove and all of em down with him... and he said he isnt considering it. now anytime he says something that makes the news, its likley to drag up the torture story, and if not, people WILL remember it.

it will all get better... someday.

btw, you gonna be on chat later? i havent seen anyone in the room for a few days.

4. Thanks man
I heard about that but I didn't see it. Good for them thats really funny! And I know that they're going down, there is very little doubt in my mind. My biggest worry is that they have already done irreparable damage to the idea that the US is the good guys. Sigh...

I'll be in the chat, I don't know for how long though. Damn finals.

7. I know exactly what you mean
I go to GD and I get sad and frustrated, but I can't pretend like what's going isn't, so I read and cringe and feel sad and frustrated for awhile. What the F*ck is going on with this world?

13. I looked at my pictures from the march again today.
That got me in a good frame of mind. GD just pisses me off sometimes. I've gotten good at filtering, but sometimes I get into a stupid thread and get all pissed off.

14. It wasn't that any of them were stupid
Edited on Fri May-07-04 11:29 PM by Lizz612
As much as that there were so many of them and they were all about the tortures and Rummy testifying and it was so negative and angry. I was just left with this terrible impression that the havoc this admin has wreaked upon our nation and the way it is perceived, that that damage is too great to overcome now, or at least in the next 20 years. But I'm feeling better. (oh and I love rambling sentences)

edit: I'm off to bed, Chem exam in the AM. G'night DU.

15. Run on sentences rule!
Yeah, my secret fear is that there is SO much crap to clean up, that Kerry would be so unpopular from having to take some tough steps and possibly be a one-termer. (See? I told you run-on sentences rule!)

But, then I have to step back and realize that I can't worry about things that are that far ahead. I've got to worry about tomorrow first. There are so many steps between now and then.
