5. The Smiths, no question...
Morrissey is a better lyricist than Robert Smith, and Johnny Marr is a great guitarist.

9. I think the Smiths were derivative of the music the Cure developed
The Cure's breakthrough MTV hit "Let's go to bed" was really quite edgy for its time. By the time the Smiths exploded onto the scene, there were already other bands like Echo and the Bunnymen and Depeche Mode doing the gloomy-guys-in-raincoats-singing-the-depressing-songs-that-make-you-want-to-go-home-and-hang-yourself scene. Morrisey had a great voice, I will admit.

I own most of the albums by those two acts.

18. Yes, in the sense that they keep releasing records
with Robert Smith being the only constant.

Listening to the Smiths is like hitting myself in the face.

19. Apples and Oranges. But it's the Smiths.
I love Bobbo, but his writing couldn't stand up to Morrissey and Marr. The combination of brilliant lyrics and incredible guitar work trumped anything else pop music had to offer in the eighties.
