Just curious, I hear a lot of country and metal talk.

3. Well, some of those
I wouldn't classify as industrial, but I'm just an elitist snob ;)

I'm SO in love with Download... I remember when Sidewinder was released.... I still dance like a maniac to Glassblower *drool*

I went to see Das Ich in Toronto a couple of months ago... most amazing show I've ever been to in my life... Stefan Ackermann rubbed against me and left me covered in his body paint... at the end of Distillat they went a-capella... wow, it was amazing.

Listen to any Haujobb?

5. Haujobb
No, I live in the south and honestly, my music interests seem to have stopped at about 1997-98 or so. I'm stuck on Coil and a few others, but I haven't kept up. What would Haujobb compare to?

7. Hmmmmm.....
Haujobb would compare to... Thats really hard to say... I can think of a LOT of bands that share a few things in common with them, but not enough to really compare them to...

Check out Vertical Theory (album)
The best tracks off it IMO are Renegades of Noize, The Noise Institute, Concrete and Penetration

2. I've made industrial music since 1981
Our band was faulty denial mechanism in those days.

Not too many fans of this music are around, but those of us who are remain dedicated. There's a resurgence now.

That happens when things get really depressing. Like now.

4. The scene up here
is pretty huge... A lot of my friends are industrial musicians... Actually, my friend Marty was doing a remix project for Hellraiser...
We have a couple of club nights, live events a couple of times a month...

I'd love to hear some of your stuff :)

6. I like
All that early to mid-eighties old school industrial stuff: Throbbing Gristle, SPK, Chris and Cosey, Cabaret Voltaire, all the bands in the Industrial Culture Handbook.

9. Not really so much anymore.
I still listen to NIN from time to time, though. It holds the special place in my heart as the first alternative music I ever got into (I don't mean alternative as in a genre, I mean alternative as in not really super mainstream as fuck).

I'm all about indie rock and electronica, these days.

11. Aw.. That's too bad.
Their early stuff is interesting but not so great, but I think most of their really good stuff tends more toward the ambient side of things, although I can't really call it ambient. Either way, it's certainly easy to hold a lot against Trent Reznor -- I imagine if you wanted to, you could trace most modern shit-angst-metal they play on the radio back to him.

So your hate isn't entirely unfounded. :-)

If I wanted to trace it back
I'd go to the step before Trent, where someone with some real musical talent made it. And then I'd blame Trent for bastardizing it, and spawning the generation of crap-glam-rock ;)

I'm not bitter or anything

12. NIN remixes
Trent Reznor sucks unless someone else mixes his work.

14. Thats because when someone else mixes it
It sounds less like a ripoff of a good band, and more like something with some originality and passion behind it

16. Coil
They did great remixes on "Fixed" and "Further Down the Spiral". Reznor's bad about signing bands to his Nothing label and then doing exactly that. John Balance and Peter Christopherson of Coil said they were "officially" on the label for about 5 years and Reznor would never complete any work. From what I've read, he's prone to going into year long periods of doing nothing but staying home with his Playstation. I wonder if he has some sort of panic disorder.

18. PANIC!
Yeah, I'd panic too if I was him, constantly. The thought that someone might actually figure out I have no talent (well, OK, some of the videos were kinda cool) and stop listening to my music.

That or he's just staring in the mirror. Endlessly.

21. Reznor
He can be great working with others. Pigface and 10,000 Homo DJ's were wonderful side projects, but he's no good on his own. "All That Could Have Been" and "The Fragile" were both stinkers. I hope he's invested well, but I'm sure his piece of Marilyn Manson in making him plenty of cash.

24. Sadly
there are enough NIN fans to keep him going....

I'd like to go a whole month without hearing 'Closer' at the bar. Really. Just one.

"WHY does everyone like this song so much? He (DJ) plays it, and they flock"
"Because, its dirty and it says 'fuck' a lot"
"I'M dirty and I say fuck a lot, they don't flock to ME"

I cite his remix of the Perfect Drug as an example.

23. Ministry
"The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste", "Psalm 69", "Land of Rape and Honey" and "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up" are all worth owning. Jourgensen got into too much heavy metal and he's more into that sound now.

22. Ah, those were the days!
I was real big into Nitzer Ebb and Front 242. Haven't listened to any of it in a while, mainly because the volume I'd like to hear it played would probably compel my neighbors to call the cops.

NO! SEX! BEFORE! MARRIAGE!

30. My problem with Industrial music...
Most of the stuff I listened to, I have absolutely no idea who the band was. Usually some guy I worked with just gave me a cassette tape (remember cassette tapes?) and said there was some decent shit on it, so I would crank it while delivering pizza. Not a clue what or who I was listening to, but I did like it. :D

also check out www.synkrosynk.com, another guy I know... has some of his stuff up, its really good :)

I've got the CD single for "Family Man" and I used to have "Ebbhead". I still love Front 242. "Off", "Tyranny for You" and "Up Evil" are great albums.

29. The Nitzer Ebb "Showtime" CD
It used to be orange and black. Now the orange has been sun-bleached and it's a dull peach color. Guess I've had it for a while.

Money for Blood is my favorite single of theirs.
