Here's what I think: 11/9/2004 - Big "we will always remember you" thing in New York around where Twin Towers were. Late in the evening, Bush or a crony makes a surprise news conference. "We are close to capturing bin Laden". Actually, more likely to be a crony "leaking" something.
/9/2004 - World get interested. Makes news around the world.
/9/2004 - news is still on all the channels and papers, but is generally dismissed as nothing but propaganda.
/9/2004 - Nothing from White House. BUT Kerry is asked what he thinks is going on. It will be construed, somehow, by someone, that his reply means that he doesn't support the troops, or the capture of bin Laden, or the "war on terror"(TM).
/9/2004 - 10am, EST (about 4pm GMT) - White House calls press conference. 11am (5pm GMT) Bush comes out. "Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press: We got him!!" (Whoops of joy, tears, hugging etc). The news goes mad, huge coverage of the event, etc. 5pm - news reported turn to Kerry and says "what do you think?" "I think it's great." Someone then argues that he's done an about face from day before.
/9/2004 - Bush gives speech about election. "I captured bin Laden, I won the war on terror, and Kerry didn't support it". Meanwhile, bin Laden is taken to secure location, never to be seen again (aka Saudi Arabia). And will he ever even set foot inside the Hague... I think not!!
