2. Whenever I can't sleep

I recite things I learnt by rote when I was at school...

I start off with the story of the Flood in Latin. Then move into Latin verbs (can still remember all 6 tense for amo), then Latin nouns (I know the 1st, 2nd and 3rd declensions still). Then Ancient Greek - the 24 ways of saying "the", the present, imperfect, future and perfect tenses of "I loose". Then we move into French and the irregular verbs.

And if I'm not asleep within 5 minutes after that, I get up and eat some cereal.

3. Even if I knew Latin (you lucky UKers, getting a real education)

It doesn't help when the geese have come to roost in the lake. Man, I never heard such a....I don't even know what I'll call it. But last night, the geese were at play.

6. If I can't fall asleep,

I choose some word ending (e.g., -ic, -ate) and go through the alphabet coming up with words using that ending. I try to make difficult words rather than obvious ones. Sounds strange, I know, but it works for me!

If you have chronic insomnia, may I suggest attending law school? Not that reading 365,892 cases is necessarily boring; you'll just be so busy and overworked that you'll NEVER have trouble falling asleep!!

7. I empathize with you, Khepra

I just ended a two week bout myself. Went to the bookstore and stocked up. Seems that if I read for an hour or so before bedtime (nothing political!) then I sleep fine.
As for the geese... Have you tried earplugs? I have to battle with cackling hens, I'm in a house full of women!
