I consider myself to be technically savvy, but I have to be honest,
I don't know what a blog is.
Please use small wods and syllables ;)

4. They are usually personal sites.
blog is a composite word of "web log". Like an on-line diary or journal.

They might be news related blogs/political commentary(Chomsky runs a great blog from Zent.com as do many other excellent writers)/sports focused/or just personal diaries.

3. Weren't diaries meant to be private?
An online diary is something of an oxymoron... :D

Web logs are like that park where any fool can stand on the pedastal and speak (or shout) his mind, hoping people will come for a closer listen... :-)

6. though I've totally enjoyed certain blogs and check in with
many daily, there are some that amount to nothing more than emotional exhibitionism.

Still I feel it's a really cool phenomenon, especially since there are so many, there's simply no way they can be monitored.

Think Salam Pax before and during the war. And Riverbend since then.

River has given me insight into Iraq that is simply unavailable to us through the media. I think they are both courageous truth tellers.
