My local post office is flying its flag upside down today
How very odd. Could it have been an accident? I was going to ask about it when I went in, but I didn't want to be responsible for anyone who works there getting into "trouble."

Has anyone else noticed this happening at other federal sites?

1. It's A Distress Signal ...
Could it be a secret call for help?
Is someone being held hostage inside?

IS MY TINFOIL CAP TOO TIGHT?

9. Could be, in my town in New Jersey, a former employee snuck in
one morning in a Ninja suit complete with swords and shuriken, killed to workers before someone spotted him and ran.

4. i have a hard time believeing its accidental
inverted flag is a sign of distress, it may be one employee making a statement, but that takes balls... or some jokester being a smartass and has no idea what it means.

either way i think they would notice it and fix it if they had any idea what it means.

5. Probably some prankster kid turned it over during the night
unless the post office actyually bothers to bring it down at the end of the day and raise it afresh in the morning.

or could be a politically astute postalworker there...

or just a sloppy one who likely went out, threw the hooks through the grommets, and raised it without ever bothering to even look at it.

6. The flag at our post office was flying at 1/2 staff (mast?) on Thursday
I work across the street from the post office and someone brought it to my attention asking if I knew 'why'. I then asked about 6 people throughout the day that I thought might know (including the mailman) and no one knew.

7. Do you live in a small town?
Could is be a soldier from the area killed in action that prompted the gesture?
Just a thought...

10. No@small town. Population 130,000.
Not sure about it being a tribute to a fallen soldier. I know that a man from the town 'next door' was killed about 1.5 weeks ago. Haven't heard anything about someone from this town.

11. Sometimes the top grommet on the flag can break
Or the rope can break at that spot and the flag falls over, giving the appearance of being upside down.

16. Mine too about a week ago..
But I firmly believe it to be an accident.

I drive by all the time when they are either putting it up or taking it down. They need some classes in how to both.

I actually stopped after watching the guy wad up the flag under his arm and walk back to the building with it. I was going to say something to him, but calmed down.
