Use your DVD player to make any movie into a Kubrick or French art film
HA HA!

I was just playing around with my DVD player, trying to see if I could zoom in on the "Health Insurance Remaining" bar on Bev. Crusher's panels in sickbay on ST:TNG and discovered something pretty cool:

If one sets the zoom to x4, and puts the zoom frame into the upper middle of the image, one gets a fairly good approximation of an old Kubrick film - really close close-ups on the faces as they speak (and this works well since, at least on TV, whoever is speaking is usually set in the upper middle of the frame).

If one sets the zoom to x16, and moves the zoom frame way left or right or on the bottom, one has a VERY good approximation of a French art film. No faces, just close-ups of chests, or just an arm, or sometimes no body at all, just a close-up on the background. Plus, at x16 the image is serverly pixilated, enhancing the psuedo-French art film aspect.

And if you put a lettuce on the TV set (preferably an exploding one), and smoke Gitanes while watching, you'll have your own little art film cinema.
