20. Indeed, one of the most beautiful
spots on earth. I lived in S.D. for five years during my childhood and still vacation in the Black Hills (or Paha Sapa, as its true owners, the Lakota Sioux, call it) almost every year. I would love to live in Custer or Rapid City one of these days. I know the Hills inside and out, and I could stay there forever.

5. They have the Badlands...

and Jewel Cave, and Wind Cave, and the Black Hills...oh, and various gold mines, like Homestake, Holy Terror, and Etta. :) Maybe some would consider Mount Rushmore (which is carved in the Harney Peak Granite) as a kickin' place to visit in SD.

PS: I'm a geologist and I have done research at these various locations in which I have listed. :)

Edit: Also, SD has the lovely and intelligent Stephanie Herseth. :)

10. The ultimate challenge??!
South Dakota is one of the most beautiful parts of the country! True, I wish there wasn't so much red there, but if I had the opportunity, I'd move there in a heartbeat. The Black Hills, the Badlands, the bison, the history, the Crazy Horse Monument. It's a wonderful state in many, many ways.

14. I love South Dakota! Beautiful! And I love hunting prairie dogs there
and yes, I'm serious about it being beautiful. I was captivated the first time I went, back in '93, and on subsequent trips through still think it's beautiful. And not just the badlands, but the regular, habitable areas - long expanses of hills, and the near-constant wind is incredbile, and the sunsets! My God, the sunsets!

I love South Dakota.

15. The PIPE is there
I'm talking about the pipe the White Buffalo Calf Maiden gave to the Lakota people some 5,000 years ago. It is in the posession of Arvel Looking Horse. It is brought out from time to time to bless all the other pipes, as they are all connected to this One.
