JIM MORRISON:Poster boy for freedom of speech during the 60's.
AND HIS OWN WEBSITE (THEDOORS) GETS POST HUMOUSLY CENSORED BY A COUPLE OF KNOW NOTHINGS...SMALL CREEPS WHO WITH A LITTLE POWER ABUSE IT........Im proud to be one of the banned...cause I could throw up at the stupidity and hypocrisy of it all......as much as hypocritical as this country has become anyway.

1. We want the world.....
...and we want it now. Still holds true.

2. Morrison was a hack!
Try some Lenny Bruce!

Morrison shouted down anyone who disagreed with him just like all egomaniacs.

3. You are being silly!
While I love Lenny, too, what you say about Jim isn't true. Name one person, one incident, anything from real life. He was a kind and gentle soul, when sober. I can't recall a single time he behaved as you claim .... perhaps you are thinking of the movie?

4. Never saw the movie
"No One Here Get's Out Alive" by Danny Sugarman is where I got my information. Perhaps people just have some star struck impression that it was all peace, love, dope. No, humans have faults.

It doesn't help that Morrison fans go to his grave and desecrate the graves of others. I do not hold him responsible. He was no champion of free speech just because he wanted to pull his dick out in public.

7. Danny Sugarman's book
is one person's impression, though others have found it inaccurate. It might be good to read a wider range of views .... but it isn't that important. It is curious you mention the grave issue .... "It doesn't help" vs "I do not hold him responsible" is odd .... why mention something if it has nothing to do with Jim ? It appears to have some influence on your thinking, though clearly he can't say much about what those foolish people do, eh?
His advocacy of free speech is probably more evident in his refusal to follow format on the Sullivan show, than when he pretended to expose himself.
A person lower on this thread mentions Jim drank to excess. True. He was an alcoholic. It wasn't pretty. But there have been other artists who have weaknesses. If you don't like him, perhaps you could listen to other music, and respond to other threads. I dare say Lenny (who had some issues with addiction) would probably preferred keeping company with Jim than with those who say mean and nasty things about the Lizard King.

8. Sorry for not subscribing to your cult of personality
Just expressing myself.

Refusal to follow format on the Ed Sullivan show? What a blow for free speech! You don't find that arrogant? Someone pays you to be on their very popular show, asks for you to change something, you agree to, go back on your word, and this is success. Rather than lying and saying that they will follow the party line, couldn't they have stood by their integrity and said no, bye, we don't want to be on your show? They could have, but they didn't. Real feet of clay. We need your corporate show and will do anything to be on it, even lie. Now that is free speech. I was mistaken. The Worm King Rules!

14. You are being silly again.
There's no need to make things up, apply them to me, and then give snippy answers. I'm hardly "subscribing to (any) cult of personality." Just said Jim was a good and gentle soul who had a drinking problem. And that Lenny had some addiction issues. You have every right to your feelings. If people littering makes you really upset, and you feel this is a just cause to dislike Jim, by all means, do. Or if Danny's book freaked you out, do what you need to do. There are people that don't like John Lennon because they've read Albert Goldman's book on him. No problem. Whatever helps you feel secure. The only thing I'm concerned about is when a person like you posts things on here that appear to be efforts to insult people. Another person posted a pro-Jim thing. I agreed. If you don't like Jim, you could always just go to the Pat Boone section.

16. Unfortunately, Pat Boone is still among the living.
I disliked Jim Morrison before I saw his grave. As I said, he was a hack, his lyrics were trite. But he was by no means a bastion of free speech. He was a spoiled brat.

18. I'm sure his poetry
will never be as appreciated as yours, but give him a break. And you apparently haven't heard the news about Pat Boone ..... sad. Hope his grave is tidy for the enjoyent of those who are that life style. He did a lot for free speech!

19. On the contrary
His poetry will never be appreciated to the extent that Chuck Berry's poetry is appreciated. Or Shakespeare's, or Eliot's. Or Jimi Hendrix's. Or Robert Hunter's. But I can't say that since I'm not a poet. I cannot have an opinion on someone else's work. Why can't I be more like Jim Morrison.

Oh, but Chuck didn't do anything for free speech. Bad Chuck, back in the ladies' bathroom with you.

Like Zippy the Pinhead sez: Are we having fun yet?

10. You seem to speak for a lot of dead people.
How do you know with whom Lenny Bruce would keep company?

Did Lenny Bruce subscribe to the same cult of personality?

I think Lenny Bruce would applaud my efforts to tear down an overblown icon, at least that's what he told me.

12. Never saw the movie
but I remember the man who was arrested in Miami, and also in Newport, Ct, for making out with someone backstage; who Jackie Gleason and ms orange juice (anita bryant) had a decency rally on account of. Your memories do not serve you well.......or you were not around then.

6. Yes that title is an insult to Lenny Bruce
Edited on Sat May-08-04 06:04 PM by moof
edit to say that he would of course say you had the right to say it.

Bruce was exploring the satirical implications of nuclear testing, racism, illegal drugs,
homophobia, back-alley abortions and the death penalty. He wanted only to talk on stage
with the same freedom he exercised in his living room. But he ended up visiting FBI
headquarters in San Francisco to complain that there was a conspiracy between the
courts of New York and California to violate his rights.

Lenny's fear was not exactly unjustified. "He was prosecuted because of his words," said
a former assistant district attorney. "He didn't harm anybody; he didn't commit an assault;
he didn't steal; he didn't engage in any conduct which directly harmed someone else. So,
therefore, he was punished, first and foremost, because of the words he used... We
drove him into poverty and used the law to kill him."

9. Morrison ended up dead at age 27; Hoover was on the loose.
I don't think anyone here has a memory left.

5. There are far better people for 60's freedom of speech.
Morrison was a drunken, stoned asshole.
At best.

Lenny Bruce has been mentioned, but also George Carlin should be on the list.

20. If there were more poets and less soldiers
the world might be a better place....no wonder I can't stand either party anymore; they both stink to high hell.
