What inane task do you find oddly satisfying?
Me, I just picked the lint out of several little hairdryer vents with some tweezers. Don't tell me life ain't grand!

1. Washing dishes....
As the oldest of 5 children one of the ways I helped my mom was to clean up the kitchen while she put the kids to bed. Now, well into my adulthood, I probably wash 95% of the dishes we use.

I think washing dishes and mowing the lawn are my two real zen moments.

7. Washing dishes, also...
Something about the hot, running water allows me to think. And not only do I have a tangable result in clean dishes, I've allowed all my tensions to seep away.

3. Scooping manure
I love to clean out our horses' stalls and clean up the paddock area. It always needs to be done over again 10 minutes later, but it has always just been so satisfying to me.

21. "Un-sewing"
It is very satisfying in a strange way to pick out long seams, carefully getting all the little threads out.

14. Early AM grocery shopping...
Me too, about 4 years ago when I moved here to be with my wife, I did the shopping on my own first thing in the morning. It's relaxing and I honestly enjoy bargain shopping.

10. Going out to do some ad hoc grocery shopping
Because that's usually followed by JCCyC's trademark pasta and some sodas/beer.

Now, the big, monthly grocery shopping is about as fun as a kick in the nuts.

23. Mowing ...
When I ran a glider port in 1973/74 - a grass strip 3500-ft X 150-ft - I loved to mow the runway on Mondays and Tuesdays (our closed days). 'Course I had a Ford tractor and a bush-hog mower.

28. Yes. Mowing...
As much as I put the task off, there's little more satisfying than a well-kept yard. Tomorrow, I'm actually getting the hedge-trimmers out.

39. Mmmm, mowing....
I have neighbors in my subdivision of carbon-copy colonials who are really anal about their lawn mowing (grid patterns, diagonal stripes, etc). I just start at one side and follow the contours of the yard as my imagination leads me. Lots of cool spirals and swirls and so forth. It's a meditative thing, except when the grass is really long and I have to bag it rather than mulching (emptying the bag every three minutes kinda ruins the Zen quality of the whole enterprise).

all 20, with my swiss army knife scissors, or just with my fingers (you have to pick the nails use use to pick last). THis is a 10minute ordeal, best after a shower.

33. i love the smell of steam & starch in the morning. it smells like IRONING!
even starched shirts i get back from the dry cleaners have to be re-ironed around the collars.

taking something all wrinkled and making it flat, starched, and crisp......that's therapy.

Can't explain why. Maybe it's because all that folding is a real pain in the ass.
