Best Techno/Industrial music tracks of ALL TIME?
Edited on Tue May-11-04 12:06 AM by leftyandproud
Time to test out my CD burner...I listen to electronic music occasionally...I like the stuff in the videogame Wipeout XL for the PS1. I believe they have Underworld, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, etc. I'd like stuff I can listen to while reading or laying in bed...trippy stuff that sounds good but won't get me distracted from other things...and I really DO NOT want any of the "dance/rave type music that just goes "boom...boom...boom..boomboomboom...boom...boom...boomboomboom"...I don't like the super fast beat songs with sound effects thrown in the background...I need something that FLOWS...tunes that sound unique...not just random beats and sound effect. I like the techno in some of Linkin Park's songs if that helps..

Know what I mean? I'm looking for stuff that FLOWS smoothly...cool songs with a logical progression, building up with a beginning, middle, then hitting a climax...nothing crazy...just cool tracks that can be played in the background when I'm working or laying in bed without too much distraction...stuff that lets your brain "zone out" and forget it is even playing. The only thing I have found that lets me concentrate when I'm working is instrumental classical music...Anything with lots of lyrics is just too distracting. Anyway, sorry for the ramble. I'm ready to branch out and am looking for some good stuff in the electronic arena.

I would appreciate suggestions...How about naming top 3-5 songs/groups of ALL TIME in this genre? Any input greatly, GREATLY appreciated!!!

1. Mine!
See sig for links...

But seriously, I would go with Aphex Twin, KMFDM (lyrics, but good for background), and, oh, Art of Noise.

Also, check out the free mp3 download sites, and download the playlist for their charts. Something in there will be worth listening to more than once...

6. some of my favs...
BT
808 State
Future Sound of London

When it comes to cool electronic music that is well suited as background working music, these are the ones I tend to put on most often.

11. Three to five, huh?
Besides Underworld, the supreme gods...

Aphex Twin (ambient stuff is fantasic, but there's a lot of harder idm too)
Bjork (words, but the music is flowy... try it on a song-by-song basis)
Orb (their whole goddamn catalogue)

It sounds like what you're kind of looking for, though, is minimalism. I'd recommend taking a stab at:
Mogwai
Philip Glass
Steve Reich
Godspeed You! Black Emperor

See what you come up with.

12. okay...
What you're looking for is electronica in the genres known as ambient, trance, and IDM ("intelligent dance music").

Bands/artists: The Future Sound of London, Orbital, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Autechre, Boards of Canada, The Orb, Plaid, Moby (for a start, that'll do...lots more)

A few GREAT tracks: Orbital, "Halcyon On and On"; Future Sound of London, "Lifeforms, Path 3"; Moby, "God Moving Over the Face of the Waters"; The Orb, "Outlands" (especially the version from their "Live '93" album); Recoil, "Vertigen"; Massive Attack, "Teardrop"...and I'm too tired to think of more right now, I'm afraid...hope this helps a bit...

26. At the V2003 festival last year in Chelmsford
ADF were simply miles better then the Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and all the rest. I should also add that I actually reckon Moby is a pretty good live act too!

There are several types of genres here for you to choose from. From trance to spy music to indie rock. And they identify the artist, song and album. A grqat resource.

A few of my favorites: The Dining Rooms, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Love Spirals Downward.
