Woman Fed Up With (GOPisEVIL) Hitting Her House With Golf Balls
<snip>

Pauline Bryant has counted a dozen golf ball-size holes penetrating the vinyl siding of her Hayden Drive home near Mason Rudolph Golf Course.

For the past two years, Bryant said, golf balls have continually struck her Clarksville home, sounding like gunshots.

The 74-year-old was standing in her yard last summer when a golf ball soared through the air, landing within two feet of her.

''It could possibly have hit me in the head,'' she said. ''That is the part that scares me the most ... someone could get hurt.''

Middle of the page-Greens fees $20 OR LESS. Sounds like hacker heaven to me.

4. Do you know the only difference between this place and a dogtrack?
There is at least one WINNER at the dogtrack.

Hey I just thought that up-we call cheap/crappy courses "dogtracks" not that I mind them.

5. I love these articles
It's a classic, really...

"Man/woman/family is angered because golf course/airport/college next door keeps causing too many disruptions."

Even though the golf course/airport/college was there well before the person moved in. Here's an idea: MOVE IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT! Or even better, don't live next door to an OBVIOUS DISTRACTION to begin with!

6. That reminds me of a neighborhood they built near a shooting range
On the Va. Peninsula not far from where I grew up. The shooting range had been there since the 1930's or there abouts, long before much else was there.

Well not only did some genius decide to buy the land at the end of the range but he developed it and sold lots/houses to other idiots who MOVED IN! Then they started complaining about the rounds landing in their yards.........scary yes BUT THE SHOOTING RANGE HAD BEEN THERE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess they should have driven around the area before signing the mortgage huh?

12. Um - Shooting Range or No - You can't appropriate someone else's property
Which is what you are doing if you are shooting bullets - or golf balls unto their property and making it impossible for them to use the property in any way they desire to use it. If you say otherwise you approve of taking someone's private property rights without compensation. If a person has a shooting range they have a legal obligation to construct it in such a way that the bullets don't leave the property - yes it is possible. The same is true for golf courses.

14. If I remember correctly
The range was built next to a creek. The outdoor range from time to time would allow the odd round to fly out of the property. The creek was well marked to alert boaters not to come too close (all approved by local code regulators) and no one ever thought that they creek(also approved by the county) would be filled it and houses built there.

I understand what you are saying but buying a house on a golfcourse comes with that problem.

17. They filled in a creek and built houses there?
Edited on Tue May-11-04 01:29 PM by yellowcanine
Either it wasn't much of a creek (hence no boaters) or something is seriously wrong here. (Much corruption and back room deals in the county planning and zoning office comes to mind.) There is also something screwy about allowing "the odd round to fly out of the property" unto a waterway where public boating is permitted, warning signs or no warning signs. Where I grew up, only the military got away with that kind of crap.

15. They don't always have a legal obligation
At least with golf courses, it is very common that new homes built next to them are encumbered with covenants to allow for the flight of golf balls, and whatever harm they might do.

I'd think a developer who put homes in the line of fire of a shooting range would not get a Certificate of Occupancy unless the county or city (or whomever had jurisdiction) thought they were safe from the bullets. It seems really idiotic that it would be allowed to happen. I'm quite curious as to exactly where this "shooting range community" is.

13. People pay extra money to live next to a golf course.
No, really. Golf course communities are prized among developers because they know they'll get more money for their land. And they are very careful nowadays about encumbering the homes with covenants for the golf course, easements for the passage of golf balls, and they make the purchasers sign waivers and indemnities so they can't sue anybody if their homes get swiss-cheesed by those little white projectiles. All that, and people pay extra for the privilege.

16. You're damned right they do. They build the courses before the houses.
Almost every new golf course in Colorado is being built inside a housing development.

I can see being upset if you didn't know you were close enough for bullets to hit your house. But for God's sake how the hell can you not have a clue that you are buying a house on a golf course? Being located on a course probably adds an extra $20K at LEAST to the price of a house.

19. I guess if you really, really like to golf, it's cool.
It sucks, though, if one person in the family loves to golf but the rest of them don't really care for it. I imagine one would become a "golf widow", living in The Alamo, constantly under siege from errant golf bolls. Not a good life.

20. My fraternity was across the street from holes 13 and 14 of a course
Edited on Tue May-11-04 02:51 PM by Rabrrrrrr
(the 13th green was DIRECTLY across the street)

It was great! every now and again someone would be seen using an iron from our front yard, chipping to the green, but that was okay.

But what was totally cool is that we would pop over and play a few holes whenever we felt like it and no one was on the course. We figured that since people played on our yard, we should get the occasional free play. :-)

21. That's a good point. Especially if they like to sleep in.
Forget sleeping late if you live next to a golf course, unless you don't mind a 6 AM wakeup call.:) Golf balls do make a lot of noise banging off siding.
