God says to kill everyone?
I don’t understand why the most God fearing people seem to be so hateful toward others. I was talking to a friend of mine who happens to live in Central Texas. She is a church going, God-fearing Christian. The conversation was about the taped decapitation that was reported today and she said something to the effect that she wishes all of them would just die over there. Then something about God saying in the Bible we should have killed them all long ago. I was like WTF? Never in my life have I wanted someone to die. Even when some horrific people are put to death, I am not happy, I am saddened by the loss of life.
I was raised catholic until I decided it wasn’t for me at the age of about 13 or so. My early religious teachings never taught me to hate and kill. I just don’t get it.
Now this isn’t a religious bashing thread or anything like that. I am just confused over the die-hard Christian attitudes that I never really thought was this real. I am a fairly spiritual person with a belief in a god of some sort and I also believe in reincarnation. I don’t push my beliefs on anyone and I don’t expect people to push them on me. But to say to me with serious conviction that “those people” should all be dead…God says so… I just don’t understand that. Can some of you explain this to me?
I was looking in to what she said about these Bible references and I found a pretty interesting site out there. Take the quizzes…they kind of sum up the love of God as written in the old testament.

Excuse my poor writing skills, I try to condense a lot of shit into something that makes sense to me.

4. I've never seen this site..
It is pretty funny, but I'm seeing why my head was spinning as a child. A lot of this stuff I don't really remember because I went in a whole different direction.

12. You understand this is a parody site, right? Don't mean to sound critical
but it isn't clear that you're getting this. Forgive it please if I'm mistaken. (This comes up about once a week.)

2. People that REALLY get God/Christ/Allah etc..
are not like this.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of twisted people out there that think they can justify their views behind their supposed religion. They don't understand you have to LIVE it, not just talk about it in church once a week.

They're hypocrits of the worst kind.

3. It doesn't make sense to me...
but there are a lot of stories in the Old Testament which some could take to mean - "God was on our side and that is why we were victorious in war".

That seems like a really primitive point of view. But it seems to me that that is where a lot of people are at.

6. When your beleif system tells you...
That you and others who believe exactly as you do are 'right' and all others are WRONG... complicated by the belief that GOD is on your side... made more ominous by some old writings that characterize GOD as vengeful and genocidal...

Well, you can see the end result whenever you encounter someone like the woman you described...

7. I guess what I'm more confused about..
...is how do people who seem like regular and decent people turn hateful and almost evil sounding in these circumstances? To be able to wish death on other people without feeling any guilt?

11. fear
they're buying all the 'fear' tactics spewed out these days.

Their fear is greater than their 'religion'.

8. The weird thing is that this is the same type of thinking of Al-Qaeda...

...and no one ever takes up these inbreds on it.

Can anyone honestly tell me that these "Christians" are in any way different from Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in terms of how they percieve the world???
