Need a break from bad news? Here's a fun book.

I picked this up yesterday from the supermarket paperback rack.

The race is on between the Americans and the Chinese to be the first to set foot on Mars. This thriller manages to be interesting, exciting, and hillariously funny all at the same time as two teams of astronauts race toward Mars. Who will be the first to plant their country's flag on the red planet? And who will rescue them when disater strikes the mission?

Highly recommended for fans of good old fashioned science fiction thrillers. Red Thunder by John Varley.
