When Jesus appears on cardboard boxes

or in the bottom of somebody's frying pan

Why is he always crying? Couldn't we get at least one smile every now and then?

I want a smiling cardboard Jesus. I'd take him everywhere.

That kind of stuff, and usually not that exaggerated, but there's generally a bit of political motivation in making sure it's a crying Jesus.

And people will come flock to see a crying Jesus.

Apparently they won't come flock to see a laughing Jesus who's enjoying life and telling his disciples not to be so serious and just enjoy the day you have because tomorrow is a different time, you might be dead, you don't know, so be present with that which is before you already. And have some more wine.

Because you can't manipulate people with that kind of theology.
