COCOA, Fla. -- A pit bull attacked a mother and her baby in a Cocoa neighborhood on Tuesday. Neighbors tried to help the victims during the attack at the intersection of Pinyon and Longleaf.
Now, the mother and baby are in the hospital and the dog is dead.
Amanda Ibraham, 18, was apparently out on her side yard, trimming her trees, when a pit bull mix came out of nowhere and lunged for the woman's small child. Ibraham may have saved her son's life by throwing him over a fence after he was attacked by the apparently stray dog, said Barbara Matthews, spokeswoman for the Cocoa Police Department.
Once rescue crews could get Ibraham and her son to safety, they started treating them for life threatening bites. One-year-old Keyshawn Ibraham was gnawed deep into the side. His mother was bit on the face, chest, arms and legs.
