Someone Stole my John Kerry Yard Sign
I was away on Monday and Tuesday, and when I got back home last night, my yard sign was gone. Twice before someone has pulled it out of the ground and laid it down on the grass, but this is the first time it has completely disappeared. Grrrr....

So I got online and ordered five of them as backup. I think I will spread something nasty all over the back of the next one so that the perpetrator can have a nice souvenir if it happens again. Any suggestions?

2. I was thinking molasses...
But it would attract too many ants.... Motor oil is a good idea. I'd like to get something that would be hard to get off the hands... like dye, but that wouldn't stay moist. Maybe motor oil mixed with red dye.

3. tar. not molasses, it attracts ants.
get some roofing tar. Or pound tacks or glass into the wood where they would grab it. Nah, they'd probably sue on that last one.

The good news is that Kerry is pissing someone off, which means they are afraid of him.

4. use 90 weight gear oil, you can...

pick it up at the auto supply store. It sticks well and doesn't attract ants (and it makes you look so butch when you plop it on the counter - ha-ah).

6. Axle Grease... The Kind In A Tube
that you need an grease-gun to squeeze out of the tube and into the grease injection "bits". (Hell... I don't know what they're called, but I can show you where they are.)

It's thick, it's black, it stains, it won't attract ants. The only problem is that it's likely to bleed through if your lawn sign in made of paper/cardboard.

7. Excellent Suggestion...
And the sign is plastic so that should work well. Thanks.

(I'll still mix it with red dye)

8. Get a camera, like they have in convenience stores
Along with a spotlight activated by motion.

Tar, molassas or dye can all be negated with gloves. The way to fight crime is with the criminal justice system. The more resources you have, the more effect you will have.

The cops can't do it all, but give them some tools and you will be surprised at how willing they can be in upholding the law. It's in their interest in getting scum like this off the streets.

Today it's yard signs, tomorrow? Who knows what will make them happy. There are law breaking individuals in your community who have no compunction about violating the rights of their fellow citizens.

I'd complain bitterly.

12. I thought about that...
I was so angry when I saw it missing. I live in a gated golf-course community, very republican... It's amazing to me what lengths some privileged people will go to .... breaking the law and stealing my property. Not sure about the camera, but if it happens again, I'm planning on setting up a video cam. I'm also going to put the sign up close to the house right in front of my dining room windows... so they'd have to be pretty bold to steal it again.

9. Maybe it wasn't an anti-Kerry individual who stole it...
but an impoverished Kerry supporter who wanted the sign to display in their own yard to show their support.

What's up with the negative attributions?

10. Gear oil
I think we can assume it is a freeper.

Gear lube (AKA gear oil, axle grease) is very thick, but only somewhat sticky. They might get their hands dirty, but it is easy enough to wash off.

I would suggest something with a little more stick to it. A nice industrial epoxy perhaps?

Hydrofluoric acid wouldn't permanently injure them, but it would turn their hands yellow and green for about a week or so.

Or you could get a little kiddie pool and plant the sign in the middle of the pool and fill the pool with something. That way if they want to get the sign, they have to go in the pool. I'm guessing that part of your motivation is to stop the taking of your sign so that you can continue to show your support for Kerry. This might prevent it.

Not that I want to take away an opportunity for you to be butch at the auto parts store:evilgrin: !!

11. I'd go with the Gear oil idea, it has a raunchy smell to it
.
.
.

Axle grease hardly has any smell at all, but gear oil has a sort of offensive smell, and hard to get rid of.

Besides, if you cover the whole sign with it, the sign will be nice and shiny!

A one quart container of gear lube usually has a nice tapered tip on it for easy application too!
