I Just LOVE Our New Widescreen HDTV. --- An Unexpected Benefit...
is how the set handles standard broadcast images that use a 4:3 ratio for the screen size/shape.

My TV's ZOOM option allows me to enlarge a standard 4:3 image to fit the widescreen proportions... THE ADDED BENEFIT? The ticker-tape scroller on CNN and MSNBC totally disappears!!! Gone! Zap! Outta here!

Yes, I lose an equal amount of image from the top of the screen as well... but who cares? The ticker tape is gone!

Also, on many other shows, the animated banner ads are less noticeable too.

P.S. Mark my words. Before this decade is out, you'll be seeing banner ads during shows that are paid for by ADVERTISING SPONSORS (as opposed to the current "self-promotion" network ads.)

3. Philips 34" Tube... Got It At Sears
but only because BestBuy screwed up my order and didn't call to let me know that the delivery had been canceled and I stayed home for 8 hours waiting for a delivery that would never come and when I called them they said "whoops. Can we schedule for NEXT WEEK?" to which I said, "NO waiting five MORE days for a total of 10 days is just stupid. Keep your TV I'll find it elsewhere."

I forget the exact model number. Sorry.

P.S. This was the 2nd one we got because the Sony 34" tube was VERY susceptible to magnetic interference from the sound system speakers that were set 3 feet away from the TV. The set's auto degauss wouldn't even remove the green/pink haze caused by the magnetic fields.

The Philips TV is not as susceptible (better shielding?) and I was even able to move the speakers a bit closer to the TV with no difficulty.

2. Cool!
Just cool. I have nothing else to say, since I really don't know what you're talking about. :-)

But if you're happy, I'm happy.

4. Cool, we just got one too...
A 50" panasonic. And I love the zoom and justify features. Hadn't thought about using the Zoom on CNN... great idea. :)
