Where is the outrage?
Well, some of it has spilled onto the signs in Barb Broeske's front yard in Elgin.
"That's where it's been since August," says Broeske, a 56-year-old graphic designer who has been an outspoken opponent of the war in Iraq from the get-go. "I'm totally outraged."
She put up her first yard sign last summer, posting the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq.
"When I started putting up the signs, it was 237 or something like that," she says.
Then came those bloody weeks when she'd update the sign twice every day. On Monday, that sign read 770.
Except it's not the same sign. The original was stolen, apparently by a critic. So was the replacement sign. And the replacement for the replacement sign, and the...
"Five times the signs have been stolen," Broeske says.
