Am I having a vegetarian moment?
OK....this may come across as completely bizarre but bear with me.

I just finished a Peter Singer book which argues that eating animals is completely unethical. He makes good arguments, but I don't buy it.

Anyway, we have the recent prison scandal, and the Berg tape, in which humans are treated like meat.

Then there's the story about the cow who escaped the slaughterhouse and hid out as the garage. Poor little thing looked scared out of his wits.

Anyway, I make dinner - smoked pork tenderloins, greenbeans and black beans. Usually, one of my favorites. But I can't eat it.

I just can't.

Am I going crazy here? I fucking LOVE meat!

6. great book
like solinvictus said go free range and humane. My prob isn't with the eating of meat its way its mass produced in our current society. When I can afford it I try to go organic but there are times when I can't. Then I try to put it out of my mind. We're omnivores remember that.

13. Loved that book
I remember seeing you say something about it before. I think what hit me the most when I read it was the Bible story of Adam and Eve was simply an analogy for mankind's emergence from hunter/gatherer societies to agriculturally based (and what that did). I liked that much better than the anti-female interpretation it gives throughout much of organized religion. Some powerful stuff there.

14. And Cain v Abel was along the same lines
Cain was a farmer, and displeased God, whereas Abel represented the hunter-gatherers and pleased God...

3. No
I love steak, but I have an ethical dilemma with the sufferings inflicted on animals for my diet. I have a chihuahua that I'd literally kill for and, considering, a piglet has been proven to have the emotional intelligence of a 3 year old child; it causes me serious problems when I consider it. Poultry I have no problems with because chickens and domestic turkeys are dim, but at the same time, they should be free range.

9. Don't worry about it...
it was only an animal. Animals are meant to be eaten.

I know you're having some strong emotions from what has happened recently--we all have--but don't let that...I don't know how to say this without offending or hurting, but...I don't know. You may know where I'm going with this.

Just enjoy it. :)

7. Sometimes that's how it starts.
My sweetie started with an aversion to steaks. For her, it really started after we lost a beloved pet... you just may be having a vege moment.

Gotta love the runaway cow stories. :toast:
