George Bush/SNL Theory
Alright, hear me out on this one. I was talking to one of my Repub friends and he mentioned that nothing the left throws at * ever seems to stick (draft dodging, doing coke, etc.). So I started thinking "Why is this, are his spin doctors just that good?" and I came to realize that no one has really played him on SNL after Will Ferrel left.

Carvey played Bush the smarter so effectively that "it wouldn't be prudent" and "it's bad" now pop into our heads when we think of Bush 41. Hartman, and Hammond did amazing jobs as Clinton and because of it hardly anyone took the Lewinsky scandal seriously.

My point is that these impressions that they did shaped our impressions of their presidency. They portrayed Bush 41 as ineffective so we believed it. They portrayed Clinton as too smart and smooth for his detractors to ever nail him so they never did. Their impressions became reified as to who they were.

At the moment no one on SNL is doing a good * impression. This helps him because their is no one who portrays him as an oafish idiot mishandling the nations affairs. And because of it we don't subconsciously connect him with the impression.

Does anybody get what I'm saying, or am I an idiot?

1. I don't think SNL has much "power" anymore
But I do wish the comedians would be tougher on Bush.

2. Very interesting
observation. It is not only true but also hints at the network underpinnings.Do you remember the SNL that featured the real George Sr. and Barbara and included a skit that featured Geo.Sr. taking Junior out to hunt and deciding to kill him because he was so dumb? It was during election 200.Senior was trying to explain the duties of the president to his idiot son. I always thought it weird that the parents lent themselves to that particular show ,and wondered if it was indicative of how Bush 42 really felt!
And remember the show "that's My Bush"on Comedy Central with Timothy Bottoms playing the imbecilic Prez? They pulled the plug on that PDQ after the first 100 days.

3. And Ford as a clumsy buffoon, and Carter as a "lusty, zesty man"
who kissed a black man.

6. It seems pretty left slanting now
Tina Fey is always making jokes at the administration's expense. Hammond plays Cheney as a wicked man. Last week they had Bush and Rummy making out.
