DK Publishing Recalls Children's Books

WASHINGTON (AP) - DK Publishing Inc. is recalling some 214,000 children's books because sound makers on the last page pose a choking hazard to young children.

No injuries have been reported, but the New York company did receive a report of a 22-month-old boy who detached a sound device and put it in his mouth, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

The cardboard books were sold under eight titles: ``Dinosaurs,'' ``Kitty's Adventure,'' ``On The Road,'' ``Puppy's Busy Day,'' ``Tractors,'' ``Trains,'' ``Emergency!'' and ``Trucks.''

The books were sold for about $8 from March 2001 through April 2004 at bookstores, gift stores, news stands, discount department stores and warehouse clubs nationwide, and through direct phone orders.
