Poll question: Taking the stairs is not an option-
Edited on Tue Aug-19-03 11:00 PM by MiltonLeBerle
Which of the two elevators in the news this past week would you prefer to be a passenger on-
4 hours during the blackout with 9 people in a small elevator car,
or 20 minutes alone in the elevator with a hospital co-worker's severed head?

1. I can't imagine a scenario where I would choose "severed head"!

2. try this scenario:
Edited on Tue Aug-19-03 10:55 PM by MiltonLeBerle
4 HOURS squeezed into a smallish elevator with 8 total strangers, in complete darkness and 90degree heat, and you don't know if there's been a terrorist attack, or what...

Compared to that, I could do the 20 minutes with the severed head standing on my head- in air-conditioned comfort, with friendly doctors and a BIG bottle of Valium(maybe even a morphine drip) waiting for to settle my nerves when I get out.

4. not for me...
I could grit my teeth through a bad situation with a lot of people, but not with a segment of a person.

8. what if...
45 minutes into the 4 hours(stifling heat, total strangers, total dark), you really, really need to pee...

with the head, you could choose to turn away from it, and even still keep your eyes closed...Or you could play with it or something to pass the relatively short 20 minutes(making lemons into lemonade).

It is cracking me up how you are *selling* the severed head option to me! I applaud your positive outlook. One more post and maybe I'll switch.

12. It's just that the very idea-
of being in a crowded dark, hot, etc. NY elevator would drive me insane.
the head is gross granted, but it wouldn't be putting you in physical discomfort. And I'm a lot more claustrophobic than whatever-phobic severed heads would fall under.

3. I'm pretty sure
I would force myself to levitate before I would choose any mode of transport with any severed body part.x(

7. 20 minutes
I would definitely have some nightmares about the experience, but I'm picking the head because the time is shorter and without lights I wouldn't be able to see it.

Also, I drink a ton of diet pop and I know that sometime in that 4 hours I would have to use the restroom....

9. The lights were on with the head-
that didn't happen during the blackout, I think it happened at a Houston hospital- the elevator doors closed on a guy getting on the lift, the car started moving, and he lost his head...literally. There was a woman on the elevator at the time, and it took 20 minutes for them to get the elevator opened to get her out.

13. I'm willing to bet the crowded hot NY elevator smelled worse.
After all- how ripe is a head gonna get in 20 minutes? and in air-conditioned comfort to boot.

14. I can't believe I chose the head
But I reeeeeaaalllllllly can't stand being on a crowded elevator. I can't breath.

I just got stuck on an elevator at IKEA last week, me my girlfriend and a couple with two small children. It was hot and the young mom was starting to freak. Thankfully they got us out after 10 minutes. 4 hours and I would have lost it.

17. Kinda depends on whether they're 9 people I like...
We could tell jokes...play games...

It'd be a real bummer if one of them was a fundy-type though. I think I'd choose the head.

18. It's a toss-up
:puke:

Seriously, I can get along with anybody for 20 minutes, even if they're not all there. Four hours is pushing it, but I've endured childbirth for over 24 hours, so the blackout wouldn't be that awful either.
Kum---ba---ya.... :)
