2. the way it ended was the reason it was on
abc during primetime. it's the best series right now and the games have all been good, so it got bumped up.

7. 2 unbelievable shots - both in the last second
even a non fan has to appreciate that. I have to turn sports into narrative for my english professor wife. the whole lakers never won in this building thing, the series playing out like last year exactly, all the storylines, then Spurs coming back from imminent defeat in front of their own fans with a spectacular improbable long shot with 0.4 seconds left to play. LA inbounds the ball to a guy who lost his starting job to the imported superstar and who is only 6'1" he turns and shoots in that 0.4 seconds to win the game.

damn fine stuff ...unless you are from san antonio

10. thanks
so 47 minutes 59 seconds (plus adverts) of tedium, followed by a grand finale, yes?

just goofin' with you. I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and that "your team" apparently won.

4. I'll recap it for you
Some tall dudes in skimpy clothes played with a ball, going and back and forth and back and forth on the open space with a hard wood floor. Occasionally someone would throw the ball at a sort of hoop thing that sort of had a net suspended in it. Sometimes the ball would go through the hoop and sometimes it wouldn't. For some reason, whether or not it went through seemed important to people. These really annoying TV-type guys would talk while this was happening. This went on or a while.

6. Sympathy here...
Low scoring game...

Lakers led in the first half - extended it to as much as 16 in the 3rd.

Then Parker and Duncan got loose. Spurs closed and eventually took the lead with a couple of minutes to go.

Lakers closed it to one late. Kobe hits a shot with 11 (?) seconds to go.

Duncan hits a lean back fall away 20 footer with Shaq in his mug at 0.4.

Lakers inbound to Derek Fisher who catches and shoots at the buzzer - good - Lakers Win.

It was exciting..

Duncan's shot was AMAZING.

But D Fish even more amazing!

Reminded me of a Lakers' playoff game in 1986. Lakers were defending champs. We had a line on tickets to ALL the Lakers' home playoff games, been to all of them so far.

Western Semis vs Houston. The Rockets had three wins already but the Lakers had clawed back to tie the game with <1 sec to go. We just KNEW our Lakers would roll in OT and send the series back to Houston. Houston calls time out the set up the final "futile" play. My buddy, smart guy, decides to go down and use the mens' room before OT starts.

Houston throws a lob high towards Ralph Sampson...he bats at it and it it goes in - Rockets win the series.

The Forum empties in seconds. My buddy comes back - "What happened?"

I don't recall what I said but I'm sure my reply was rather profane.

I'm feelin ya' Spurs' fans...

8. I watched every game with a buddy for years until...
he is in chicago and I am stuck in Georgia. Im heading up there in 2 weeks and we are going to watch our lakers in a playoff game. They had to win so we could watch a game together for the first time in years. had to happen. never doubted. Like finals game 6 in 80, like game 7 against portland in 2000...never doubted for a second they would win tonight. not for a second. my only surprise was fisher being the one to hit the shot.

9. Back in those days (80s)
College and shortly thereafter I ran with a group that had 2 LA guys, Laker fans, 2 Boston guys, Celtic fans, and 3 other east coast guys that loved Philly..

I loved the NBA in those days.

The best was Reggie Miller's 8 points in like, 4 seconds against the Knicks.

14. Second greatest ending for me too. Different 1st greatest though
May 29, 1997. The Summit in Houston. Utah Jazz vs. Houston Rockets. Big rivalry.

Last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter, John Stockton leaves the earthly plance and ascends to another level, where he makes brilliant passes and steals. The game is tied with 2.7 seconds left and Bryon Russell inbounds, to an open John Stockton at the three-point line. John launches a beautiful 3-pointer over Charles Barkley, winning the game for the Jazz who will go on to lose to that @#%$^ Michael Jordan.

23. The photo of this all-time great moment is on nba.com RIGHT NOW
John Stockton and the Jazz were on the precipice of something great.
Three times the Jazz had made it to the Western Conference Finals. Three times they had come up short. This time, as coincidence would have it, three would be the magic number to get the Jazz into the NBA Finals.

The Jazz needed one shot, any shot to advance, and they left it to their floor general. Stockton received a Bryon Russell pass, took one dribble to his left and let fly a three-pointer. After making the shot, Stockton's icy-cool demeanor melted away as he jumped around The Summit floor like an excited kid, making one of the greatest shots in playoffs history even more memorable.

For the Lakers, that is. You'll see.

18. Question:
Did the clock start on time, or is this just drivel by Laker haters? I missed the game and haven't seen the highlights yet.

21. the clock starts when...
The referees all have remotes to the clock that they hit when they think it hits the players hands, the score keeper also can start the clock - this is a spurs employee in this case and you often see slightly slow or fast clock starts to benefit the home team.

Whichever of them hit the start first is the one that would start the clock, so if the spurs employee and all three referees screwed up it is possible. Of course the clock may have stopped at 0.49999 or 0.40 seconds so even then on replay there is nothing definitive. sorry spurs fans this one will annoy you they way Charles Barkleys after the shot clock inside the cylinder(it was goaltending for goodness sake!!) tip in to tie game three against the lakers in 93 (where they went on to win and then to win the next 2) the way that annoys me still.
