Fellow DUer has "JS. downloader.Trojan", needs help
Edited on Thu May-13-04 11:25 PM by Jen6
LBD (doesn't post very often) is on the phone with me now, totally flummoxed. I'm not of any help because I have a Mac. He says Norton found three inspected files and successfully quarantined two. Couldn't quarantine the third, and couldn't delete the third. Does anyone have a brilliant suggestion?(LBD is pretty brilliant himself, but he's stumped on this one).:-(

BTW- Windows XP pro running in safe mode (this is his business computer, and he's self employed-so he's pretty screwed right now)!

Many Thanks in advance!

1. several choices
go to symantec.com and download their patch for it
or go to trendmicro.com and run an online scan - they can eliminate worms norton has difficulty with
if he has an anti virus program tell him to go to windows explorer, program files, then find the name of the program he has, open the subfolders and find one called quarantine or something equivalent, and empty that folder.
Keep posted if that doesnt help

5. if its locking up too frequently
tell him to do a complete disc clean and then do a chkdsk and then run degrag
he can do that in safe mode - should run better after that
good luck

4. Thanks White_Rider!
He says he went to that site last night and printed out the instructions, but he's still having trouble deleting one of the files. I think part of the problem is that the computer is fairly old, and runs very slowly, locking up rather frequently . He's running in safe mode and trying to do a backup right now.

Just another reminder for all of us to back up our files regularly!
