House of Flowers....
was a play on Broadway. Book and lyrics by Truman Capote, music by Harold Arlen.

It starred Pearl Bailey, Diahann Carroll (in her first broadway role), Alvin Ailey, Geoffrey Holder, Ray Walston, and others.

1954. I own an original Playbill from the show - it didn't last long.

I'm just a Truman Capote nut....

Edited on Fri May-14-04 12:23 AM by moof
related this story.

Truman was out at a posh Hollywood restaurant having dinner with a few friends and a woman who had recognized him from asross the room came over and asked him for an autograph. Truman agreed and the woman asked if he would mind signing it on her breast. Truman said he did not quite understand the odd request but none the less affixed his signature to one of her breasts just above the top of her lowcut dress. The woman Thanked him and said what a huge fan of his writing and returned to her table. After a few minutes the man who was sitting with the woman came across the room and confronted Truman. In a voice that showed him to be a bit upset he said " So, you signed your autograph on dates breast huh, well how about signing this " ?
At that point the man pulled down his pants and grabbed his penis.
Truman looked down at the man's equipment paused and then said,
Sorry but I can't sign that, but... would you settle for my initials ?
