Need help w/Acrobat Reader
I can't figure a way to highlight lines/paragraphs/pages to print or send/compile in another program, like Wordpad, etc.

All I get is the little grabby hand.
Any ideas?

I'm working with a 75 page doc, and wants to take some excerpts.
Thanks.

1. It's not "text", it's a picture.... you can't "edit it

2. The point with PDFs is that they cannot be edited
unless you have the Acrobat Editor... the reader is just a reader...

3. some pdf docs - especially those that have been scanned, are actually
pictures. So you can't highlight text. Your other option is to use the graphics select tool but that will pick up the entire picture and you still will not be able to convert to text

4. Do a print-screen and use a OCR program to translate the pic into text
Of course, the full PDF creation program "Adobe Acrobat" would cost as much... :-(

5. You have to click on the "T"
at the top of the page which will shift the hand to a cursor that you can highlight with. Then, you have to save your highlighted text to the Acrobat clip board. Then, you can go to the clip board highlight the text you saved and cut and paste that. Good luck.

6. I believe such features are available in the retail version...
... of Adobe Acrobat, but not the free-to-download Acrobat Reader. You may want to upgrade, if that's something you'll do on a regular basis.

7. You should have a Text Select tool button
Keyboard shortcut is the letter 'v'. Try hitting 'v' and see if your cursor changes from grabby hand to a text select thingy.

8. If you don't have this...
then it's not available on the reader.

Also, if it doesn't work, it may be that the .pdf is an image, and you can't copy the text directly.

11. Another way
You can open the document in Adobe Illustrator, page by page, and grab the text from there. Great if you have Adobe Illustrator, useless if not.

.pdf is an "end" distribution format -- not meant for editing -- just for cross-platform distribution.

You might be better off re-typing the parts you want.
