10. Congratulations!!! I'll bet you thought this day would never come!
As for 2L, be prepared to work your butt off (because that's when all the journal and work opportunities come your way), but it's much better than 1L. You still get called on in class, but you're used to it and don't live in fear of it anymore. You relax and don't stress as much about grades. A 3L told me she LOVED 3L, so I'm looking forward to that starting in August.

What am I saying? Forget law school for a brief time and HAVE FUN!!!! (but stay safe)

8. Feels good, doesn't it? I still feel trauma pangs of first year exams.
Good luck on your next two years and the bar (exam, that is).

9. Ok, so...
What are you gonna do with it when you get your degree and your bar license? You gonna do some good or go for the bux?

Danger: I happen to think that there are more than a sufficient supply of greedy-assed, worthless, arrogant fsckup lawyers who price most people out of the justice system. Doing some good with your "powers" would be a very refreshing change.

20. Good place to start...
Especially if you are going into criminal defense. One of my best friends started out like that and quickly became a Deputy Attorney General. He is now the quintessential Small Town Lawyer, even to the point of having been paid, once, in heads of lettuce. You cannot find a happier person.

14. LOANS
Hey, its all about repaying the $180,000 to go to law school. I work for the bucks, but volunteer ~100 hours a year at a clinic for tenants in rent disputes. I figure the karma I lose during my 2400 billable hours is earned back in these 100 good hours.

Support the LRAP (Loan Repayment Assistance Program) at your local law school. It helps young lawyers go work for local indigent defense firms and NPOs that only pay $25k per year by assisting with their loans.

I also got to plug my friends at PILP (Public Interest Law Project).
Check out http://law.lclark.edu/~pilp/
These guys raise $50k per year so qualified law students who would make bookoo bucks working for da man can get reasonable stipends to work for orgs that can't afford ot pay them, but do great work.

11. How was it? (the first year)
I'm thinking of going to law school, I only have one year left of college. I was thinking about patent lawyer, or something along those lines because I love science (biotechnology major), and thought I might work in that sector due to the fact that I don't think I could stand being in a lab for the rest of my life. Any suggestions??

Congrats, drink one for me, I just finished my junior year of college but I have to work late tonight. :( :yourock:

12. It Goes By Too Fast
You better wake up tomorrow and start to re-study all that Tort and Contracts shit because the Multi-State Bar Exam is just around the corner.
Just kidding. Drink enough to wash away all the Civ Pro and Rule against Perpetuities crap that they filled your head with. It all means nothing once you get out anyway.
Party on counselor.

15. OMG Perpetuities
Edited on Fri May-14-04 03:35 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
I can't remember the name of the case we once discussed regarding perpetuities...basically a lawyer sued for malpractice on a case and his defense was " I don't understand the rule against perpetuities...neither does anybody else...therefore it wasn't malpractice..." Can't remember the case but it was a relatively famous one when I was in law school.

Oh and congrats, Curse10

17. We didn't have to do perpetuities!
My property professor told us she only agreed to teach the class because she wouldn't be forced to teach us perpetuities! I glanced at the concept in my book. It made my head hurt!
