Cohiba is the most famous cigar in the world. (Macanudo is the most popular, but Cohiba is the most famous.)
The original Cohiba was created in Cuba at the behest of Fidel Castro, as a prestige cigar demonstrating the very best work that Cuban torcedores can produce.
You can't legally buy this cigar in the United States.
And in reality, you probably don't want to; if you were to buy ten Cohiba Esplendidos from ten different tobacconists anywhere in the world and line them up on the table, exactly one of those cigars would be a real Cohiba Esplendido. Ninety percent of the Cohiba Esplendidos sold in Cuba are fake. You are guaranteed to get real Cohiba Esplendidos at the La Casa del Habano stores, but they run $490 a box of 25.
(Note: if you really want to drop $500 on a box of cigars, attempt to get a box of Fuente Fuente Opus X. I say attempt because most tobacconists will not sell you a whole box--that cigar is made in such limited quantities that one box is all most dealers can get, and they sell it as singles. They generally run around $35 to $40 per stick.)
There are two Cohibas made in the Dominican Republic. You tell the difference by looking at the filled center of the letter O on the band. One is the Red Dot Cohiba; the other the Yellow Dot Cohiba. The Red Dot is a decent but overpriced cigar. The Yellow Dot is an overpriced, shitty cigar.
If you're into the mystique of Cohiba, get the JR Alternative to Cohiba Tainos. I love this cigar. It is rich, creamy and $22.95 for a bundle of 20.
On edit: However, given all that, Shrub probably smokes Glass Top Cohiba Esplendidos. This is a cigar sold on the streets in Cuba as an Esplendido. It is as fake as Dubya's Christianity, as illegal as a joint and, from what I've been told (I've never had one, thank God) it's one of the worst cigars ever made.
