i got my sat scores yesterday and got a 1200. i'm thinking about retaking them...

If you want to go somewhere where that is the median score or lower, I wouldn't bother retaking the test if you have decent grades unless you are trying for some scholarship with a little bit higher score cut off. I didn't score as high as I wanted either. If I would have applied to Yale or passed the physical fitness test for the US Military Academy, I probably would have retaken it to have a better chance. Instead, I got accepted to all 3 schools that I applied to where my score was in their middle 50%. I can't brag that I got a 1500 on the SAT or anything but I didn't really want to sit through a long test again.

but if you think you can do better, and it will be something to be proud of, then by all means, do it again!:-)

Actually, I was part of a project at my high school. They were trying to decide whether or not to offer subsidized SAT prep classes, so they took a group of us who had just taken it, then had us take the prep class, and take it again, to see if it really helped. I only went from an 1175 to a 1220 (It was long ago, and I don't remember the exact scoring, but those numbers are wihtin 10 pts tops). Considering the first score was plenty to get into the schools I was looking at, I don't think I would have spent the money on the class if it hadn't been free for me.
