I'm getting mail from people who think I've left DU, but if you re-read what I said in those threads, you'll understand that I still have hope in DU and won't be leaving quite yet. All I was saying is that I understand a certain point-of-DU-view that I once never did.

Or rather it's not a DU-POV...maybe it's the election zietgeist.

But I'm just reposting this because I had to speak directly to the people that knew me. It seems a lot of things I wrote were misunderstood.

I guess that seems to be happening a lot around here lately.

1. YAY!!
Though you have to admit, your original post was quite ambiguous and (begin spooky B-movie music now) mysterious.

I'm glad you aren't leaving! I've actually been worrying about it. I'd miss ya.

2. DU is a political online high-school
Things shift all the time. People who hate another are best friends a few months later; while friends of years suddenly break ties.

It's all a 'changing and I'm trying not to take anything personal".

3. Am barely on these days
except to read lbn, editorials - and cruise GD (which has a tendency for a gazillion folks to start multiple threads on the same topic - which used to drive me nuts... but now, on limited time, it serves as a quick way to see what issues/news items are getting a great deal of emphasis). Thus have missed more recent dynamics. I would miss crossing paths with you, when I am here, terribly.

4. I'm around...it's just becoming a bit more ...dangerous to post these
days...whatever your condition in life is at the moment. My life is a wreck right now (but I'm happy, don't worry ;-) ) Many of us predicted that the Election was going to tear DU in two, and in some ways it has...but it's actually fractionalized worse than I ever imagined 3 years back.

6. it's just typical internicene squabbling,
as the pieces are moved aruond the board and policies are decided and we try to come to some kind of consensus which, as will always be in a democracy 9such as it still sstands here), is never a perfectly good solution, but only a best-possible (at best) solution that is mostly acceptable to most people.

That's all we can expect.

Life without dissension and debate and disagreement - even vehement, nasty disagreement - is life that is no longer free, but has become tyrranical, even if the people agreeing don't realize it.

8. Judges?
Not sure what you mean... you mean, like, supreme court judges? That we have to make sure we have good, decent, human-affirming judges on the benches in the US?
